The
world has four elements
and each has a name.
There's one we can't see
but it's there just the same.
They
make up all things
and we can't do without them.
So let's play a game
And find out about them!
If
you look too fast,
you might not see any.
But looking more slowly,
you'll surely see many.
1...........?
It's
kind to the river
on the bottom and sides.
Falling like silver,
it's a cascade that glides.
If
it's a fountain
with a sweet twinkling sound,
it's just this element
bubbling up from the ground.
It
can be quite scary
or filled with pleasures.
Sometime sweet, sometimes salty,
it can also hide treasures.
2...........?
It
might be a mountain
or hard as a stone,
or the place in your garden
where your dog hides his bone.
When
it's dry, it lays quietly.
If you doubt, ask a flower.
To bring back it's beauty,
all we need is a shower!
It's
highways and trails
and buildings of cement.
It's bricks and it's houses,
a city or monument.
It's
riverbed and shore,
It' where we step when we're walking.
Not to give it away,
I'd better stop talking!

3...........?
If
it comes with great force,
most cruel and insane,
we have a name for it;
it's called hurricane.
When
it's not clean,
It can make our lungs sick,
But when it's pure,
We feel better quick.
4...........?
Now
this one is tricky
so you'd better be careful.
It can be really cozy
But can also be scareful!
It's
both useful and pretty
and spreads warmth around.
But when out of hand,
burns a house to the ground.
On
the tip of a match
or the top of a candle,
It flickers and sparkles,
but can be hard to handle.
***
So now that you know them,
Say "pleased to meet you".
They're all over the place,
ready to greet you.
Some
are watery, some rough,
some are lazy, some tough.
One is transparent
and never wears clothes.
One's
in the pencil
right under your nose.
In
the food on your plate,
in verse and prose.
They're
always around us
so just stay behind them
and wherever you go
you'll surely find them!
