Alex Sanders was born and raised in South Carolina. He served in the US Army and then obtained undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina. He then earned a masters degree in judicial process from the University of Virginia School of Law.
He became a lawyer in South Carolina and was later elected to the South Carolina State Legislature. He also served as Judge of the SC Appeals Court. He later became a law school professor and now is President of the College of Charleston at Charleston, SC.
College president, Appeals Court Judge, law school professor, undergraduate professor, legislator, conservationist, lawyer, humorist, husband and father, Alex Sanders is running for the United States Senate. Alex Sanders was born, raised, and educated in South Carolina. After serving in the U.S. Army, he earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina and later a Masters Degree in the judicial process from the University of Virginia School of Law.
A lifelong advocate for public education, as a legislator Alex Sanders championed education reform and fought to increase pay for public school teachers. As President of the College of Charleston, he raised academic standards and increased the endowment by more than 290 percent. Bringing the century's new technology and jobs to South Carolina and South Carolinians has also been a lifelong goal for Alex Sanders. He has long believed that education is the key to preparing our children and adults for the jobs of the future. A fiscal conservative, Alex knows too that government must encourage a business friendly economy.
Creating jobs and preserving our environment need not be conflicting goals. As a citizen and a legislator, Alex has worked tirelessly to protect the wildlife and natural resources of our State. He knows the wisdom of balance in nature and the obligation of man to its preservation. He has been and remains in the forefront of protecting the Congaree Swamp.
A former serviceman in the United States Army, Alex Sanders understands that national security issues must be at the top of our nation's priorities. Alex Sanders says that husband and father have been his most important jobs in life. Alex met his wife, Zoe, when they were four-year-olds in kindergarten and have been married for 37 years. Zoe wrote a successful cookbook, Entertaining at the College of Charleston, to raise money for student scholarships at the College of Charleston. Their daughter, Zoe Caroline and her husband, Bill Nettles, are both attorneys who practice law in Columbia, SC.
David H. Sanders was elected to the office of Judge of the Circuit Court of Berkeley County, West Virginia.
Edwin P. B. Sanders is serving as Judge of the Circuit Court of Volusia County, Florida in 2002.
Eric T. Sanders was appointed as Judge of the Superior Court, Third Judicial District at Anchorage, of the State of Alaska 8 Aug 1996 and is still serving in 2002.
J. M. Sanders was serving as Judge of the Raleigh County Circuit Court, West Virginia in 1898.
John E. Sanders served as Judge of the Butler Districe Court in Kansas
John T. Sanders served as a Judge in Missouri. He died 15 Apr 1919.
Joseph M. Sanders was born 26 Aug 1866 in Wythe County, Va. He lived at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia. He was named Circuit Judge from 1896-1904 and became a Justict of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals from 1905-1907. He was a Republican. Joseph died 17 Feb 1927.
Teresa A. Sanders is serving as Judge Pro Tempore of the Superior Court of Maricopa County, Arizona in 1999.
