State Legislatures

Sanders - Saunders and descendants who have served in the different state and territorial legislatures of the United States. Several Sanders - Saunders who have served in state legislatures may be seen on our other government sites as well.

Cecil Carlton Sanders Cecil was born 2 Mar 1914 and in Garrard Co., Ky. He was a Democrat. Cecil served in the US Navy during World War II. He was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives and served from 1953 to 1955. He was then elected to the Kentucky State Senate and served from 1955 to 1959. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church. He was an attorney and a member of the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, American Legion, was a Freemason and member of Phi Alpha Delta fraternity.

F. O. Sanders was elected from Cabell County in 1921 to the West Virginia State House of Delegates.

Grant L. Sanders was born at Otto, Big Horn County, Wyoming 1934; died in auto crash near Lovell, Wyo. 20 Apr 1997) was elected to the Wyoming State House of Representatives and served from 1977 to 1986. Buried at Byron City Cemetery, Byron, Wyo.

Irvine Saunders was born in Premier, McDowell County, West Virginia 27 Jan 1914. He was a Democrat. Irvin was a physician and a member of the American Medical Assn., Sons of the American Revolution and was an Episcopalian. He was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates and served from 1953 to 1956. He was later reelected in 1958 but died 28 Nov 1958 before taking office.

John Sanders served in the New York State Senate representing the Eastern District from 1798 to 1802.

John H. Saunders served in the California State Assembly representing the 6th District, and served from 1853 to 1854.

Morgan Gurley Sanders (see US House of Representatives, Government Part 1)

O. A. Saunders was elected as a Republican to the Colorado State Senate in 1950. He was from Golden, Jefferson Co., CO.

Romulus Mitchell Saunders (see US House of Representatives, Government Part 1)

Roy Sanders was elected to the Louisiana State House of Representatives in 1950. He was from Chestnut, Bienville Parish, La.

Waller Saunders Baker was born 30 Mar 1855 in Lexington, Ky., a son of Amanda Saunders and John Holland Baker. He graduated from Baylor University in 1875 and became an attorney in Waco, Tx. where he practiced the rest of his life. He was named Chairman of the McLennan County Democratic Executive Committee in 1884. He was elected to the Texas State Senate in 1887 and served one term. He served as a delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention in Houston in 1892. He was married to Mary Mills. He died while on vacation in San Francisco, Ca. 9 Sep 1913.
