These marriage records have been obtained from a variety of sources, including directly from courthouse records, published books and magazines, family Bible records and from lists sent in by relatives.

NOTE: South Carolina was the only American colony which did not require either a marriage bond nor license. After independence, this was the only Southern state which still maintained this practice and did not begin requiring a marriage license until about 1912; therefore, no "public" marriage documents exist before this time. Only a few church records of marriages are available today prior to the 1900's.
