MELCHER WARD
New Hampshire Militia. Melcher received a BLW 21 Jul 1789 and sold to Ladd & Cass. (BLW #3569-100) He applied for a pension 13 Apr 1818 when living at Kensington, Rockingham, NH.
MOSES WARD
Virginia Militia. Moses received a BLW 12 May 1792, issued to the administrator of his estate, James Morrison.
MOSES WARD
Connecticut, Continental Service. He enlisted At Middletown, Middlesex Co., Ct. He applied for a pension there 26 Mar 1818 at age 61. He died 31 Mar 1836. (S36838)

Virginia Militia. on Flower Swift's 1st undated Montgomery County Militia roster and listed as not fit on Flower Swift's 3rd undated Militia roster.

Virginia Militia. Nathan served in the Va. Militia. He is on Capt. Osborn's Militia rosters for 2 Apr 1783 and 1785.

Connecticut Militia and Massachusetts Militia. He enlisted in Windham Co., Ct. He applied for a pension 20 Jun 1822 when living in Ross Co. Oh., stating he had neither family nor children to support or "who would support him." (Pension S40629)
NATHANIEL WARD
New Jersey Militia. Enlisted in Essex Co., NJ in Captain Squire's Company of NJ Militia.
NEHEMIAH WARD
Massachusetts Militia. He applied for a pension 9 Apr 1818 when living in Hampden Co., Ma., age 60. In 1820, he had wife Hannah (age 56) and ch at home: Elijah Ward (age 13), Eunice Ward (12) and Lucinda Ward (10). (Pension 33869)
NICHOLAS WARD
Massachusetts Militia. He applied for a pension 14 Jul 1832 when living at Stockbridge, Berkshire Co., Ma., aged 81. (Pension S30761)
NICHOLSON WARD
Rhode Island Militia. Nicholson was b 8 Jun 1760 at Portsmouth, RI and lived there when he enlisted in the Militia. He later lived at Middletown and Newport, RI. He applied for a pension 14 Sep 1832 at Newport. (Pension S21554)
OBADIAH WARD
Massachusetts Militia. He lived in Hampshire Co., Ma. when he enlisted as a Private in the Ma. Militia. He later moved to Ashtabula Co., Oh., where he applied for a pension 24 Sep 1832. He appeared on the 1835 Pension Roll of Revolutionary War Veterans, aged 81. (Pension S4716)
PHINEAS WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Phineas ("Phinehas") served as Private in Capt. Bigelow's Company of Ma. Militia and on muster roll of 19 Apr 1775. He later served in a Militia Company under Capt. Jonas Hubbard, which enlisted 1 Aug 1775 for 3 mos and 15 days.
REUBEN WARD
New York Militia. He enlisted in Albany Co., NY (later part of New Lebanon, Columbia Co., NY). He mar 13 Apr 1782 in Ct. Jemima Tiffany (b 18 Jan 1761/62). He applied for a pension 15 May 1822 at Cayuta (now Newfield), Tioga Co., NY at age 71. He moved from Ct. to NY about 1790. In 1822, he mentioned a son aged 14 living at home. He died 5 Jul 1825 at Meredith, Delaware Co., NY where he had lived only a few years. His wid applied for a pension there 28 May 1840 and still living there in 1844. (Pension W22520)
ROBERT WARD
New York Militia. Served as a Private in the NY Militia. He received a BLW 11 Nov 1791, assigned it to Samuel Broome. (BLW #7964-100)
RUFUS WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Rufus was b 6 Jan 1759 at Worcester, Ma. He lived in Sutton, Worcester Co. when he enlisted in the Militia. In 1783, he moved to Farmington, Hartford Co., Ct. for 5 yrs, then to Southington, Ct. for 3 yrs where he mar 10 Oct 1787 Elizabeth Barnes. He then to Pittsford, Rutland Co., Vt. In 1810, he moved to Franklin Co., Vt.; in 1814, to Muskingum Co., Oh. for 2 yrs; then to Knox Co., Oh. where he applied for a pension 28 Sep 1832. He died 4 Sep 1834. His wid applied for a pension 10 Oct 1838 in Knox Co., Oh. aged 74 (on 21 Oct 1836).
SAMUEL WARD
Virginia Militia. Samuel was b ca 1753 in Va. He lived in Lunenburg Co., Va. when he enlisted in the Va. Militia. He lived in Oglethorpe Co., Ga. when he applied for a pension. Samuel's application for a pension for Revolutionary War service:

eorgia } Inferior Court Sitting forOn this the third day of September, eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open Court before Judges Banks, Cox, Pope & Hutchinson of the Court of Ordinary of said County now sitting Samuel Ward, a resident of the County & State aforesaid, aged 79 years, who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on his oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress, passed 7 June 1832--that he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated.
He was drafted from the Virginia Militia--drew, he recollects, No. 10 sometime previous to the time of being called out. Was ordered in consequence of said draft & did rendezvous at Hillsboro, North Carolina on 25 Oct 1780--??? he marched under the command of William Collier, Capt--he soon left--Deponent was placed then under command of Ensign ??? Ferguson-- field officers were Gen'l Green, Col Jno. Glenn, Maj. Morris. Was marched from thence to Pedee, stationed at Hicks Creed, thence on a [line illegible] Towns Guilford Court House--were fired on by the enemy in crossing the shallow ford of the __? & discharged at Pittsylvania Co Court House on 25th Febry 1781.
Deponent then returned to Lunenburg County, Virginia were he resided when first drafted. In the fall of 1781, it again became the duty of Deponent to render service under the same draw No. 10--and was called upon and marched from Lunenburg County, Virginia to ??? York under the command of Capt ???
Broadnax, he thinks starting ??? as Lieutenant, and remained at York until its capture by Gen'l Washington In all this deponent is most religiously confident, making a period of more--and certainly not less than two months tho the precise dates his memory cannot now supply him with. His discharge for the first four months service under Col. Glenn he has lost. He recieved none at York.
Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid.
Samuel Ward
We, Benj. Blanton, a clergyman residing in the county and state aforesaid, and John Beasley, residing in the same place, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Samuel Ward, who has subscribed & sworn to the above declaration, that we believe him to be 79 years of age, that he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood where he lives to have been a soldier of the Revolution, and that we concur in that opinion. Maj. Jno. Beasley further certifies that Samuel Ward, the applicant, lived ??? for his Father, when he first was called upon & entered the service. That he served the first tour stated by him within his knowledge, and he understood then, and has no doubt of the fact that he served the two months stated to have terminated at York. Sworn to & subscribed the day and hear aforesaid.

In Samuel Ward's pension file is a copy of a letter from the custodian in the "Rev. & 1812 Wars Section" to Mrs. Philip A. Spence, Wytheville, Virginia, dated 4 Aug 1931:
Revolutionary War pension claim, S. 32047, the Samuel Ward, while residing in Lunenburg County, Virginia, enlisted, was rendezvoused at hillsboro, North Carolina, October 25, 1780, served as a private in Captain William Collier's Company, and under Ensign Ferguson, Colonel John Glenn's Virginia Regiment and was discharged 25 Feb 1781. He enlisted in the fall of 1781, served two months in Captain Broadnax's Virginia Company, and was at the seige of Yorktown. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 3, 1832, at which time he was aged seventy-nine years and resided in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

Connecticut Militia and Massachusetts Militia. He enlisted at Roxbury, Ma. in the Militia. He applied for a pension 16 Aug 1832 at Belchertown, Hampshire Co., Ma. aged 78.
SAMUEL WARD
Connecticut Militia. Samuel was b Apr 1760 at Ashford, Windham Co., Ct. In 1786, he moved to Springfield Vt. He mar Anna Mack in 1787 at Leicester, Addison Co., Vt. They moved to Windsor Co., Vt. for several years , then to Sassena, St. Lawrence Co., NY where he applied for a pension 24 Sep 1832. He died 17 Jun 1835, leaving ch: William Ward and Lyman Ward. His son William made affidavit 30 Oct 1849 in Lorain Co., Oh., stating his mother Anna afterwards moved with son Lyman to Lorain Co. where she died 21 Apr 1848. An affidavit by Anna's brother also mentioned ch Erastus Ward who came to live with him at age 11., abt 1802 or 1803 and lived with him until age 20.
SAMUEL WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Samuel from served in Capt. Benjamin Flagg's Company from Worcester, Ma. of the Massachusetts Militia and was listed on the muster roll of 19 Apr 1775. He also served in Capt. Aaron Smith's Company of Minutemen from Needham West, Natick.
SAMUEL WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Samuel mar 27 Jul 1787 Lois Clark in what became Sagsadahoc Co., Me. He died there 11 Feb 1809. His wid applied for a pension there 30 Sep 1856. Her brother Joseph Clark, aged 88, made affidavit 28 Aug 1856 at Sidney, Me. on her behalf. Ch listed: Elizabeth Ward (30 Sep 1788), Thomas Ward (20 Nov 1790), Lois Ward (16 Feb 1792), Polley Ward (1 May 1795), Samuel Ward (19 Nov 1797), Unice (30 Jul 1802), Clapp Ward (16 Feb 1805) and Beriah Ward (10 Jan 1808). The first two were born at Vassalboro and the rest at Sidney, Me.

New Jersey Militia. Enlisted in Essex Co., NJ in the NJ Militia.
SAMUEL WARD, Jr.
Rhode Island Militia and Continental Army. Samuel Ward Jr. was born 17 Nov 1756 at Westerly, Rhode Island, a son of Samuel Ward Sr. (1725-76), Governor of Rhode Island. He graduated from Brown College (Univ.). During the war, he raised a company of Rhode Island Militia and marched to the defense of Boston when it was under siege by the British. He was commissioned a Captain by the Continental Congress in the Continental Army. He was later commissioned a Major and then promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the First Rhode Island Regiment. He retired from the Army 1 Jan 1781. After the War, he moved to New York City, where he helped found the mercantile firm of Samuel Ward & Brother. He was elected as a delegate to the Annapolis Convention in 1786 which helped regulate trade between the new states. He moved to Rhode Island in 1804 and represented that state at the Hartford Convention, 1814. He was paid $1,047.59 by the federal government by a special act of Congress for an account dating from 23 Jul 1780. Congress passed the bill in 1819. [see "FAMOUS WARDS" section]

SIMON WARD, Sr.
New Hampshire Militia. He applied for a pension 3 Apr 1818 in Grafton Co., NH. In 1820, he was age 58, with wife Chloe age 36 and ch at home: Amelia Ward (8), Alpheus Ward (4) and Simon Jr. (2). He mar 2nd Elizabeth H. ??? on 4 May 1838. He applied for a BLW 7 Apr 1855 at Haverhill NH. He died 5 Jan 1858. His wid applied 26 Feb 1858 at Newbury, Orange Co., Vt. aged 80.
SOLOMON WARD
New York Militia. Solomon was b 12 Dec 1760 at Nine Partners, Dutchess Co., NY where he lived during most of the War. He lived at Charlotte when he enlisted. He moved to Cayuga Co., NY. He mar Sarah ??? abt 1807. He died 9 Dec 1832. His wido applied for pension 4 Feb 1839 at Aurelius, NY.

New Jersey Militia. Essex Co., NJ. He died from wounds received at Elizabethtown, NJ.
STEPHEN WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Served as a Private and Corporal in the Ma. Militia. He received a veteran's pension with $85.32 annual allowance on 19 May 183
STEPHEN WARD
Massachusetts Militia. Stephen served as a private in the 8th Regiment, Ma. Militia. He applied for and received a veteran's pension while living in Rutland, Vt. He was awarded an $80.00 annual allowance and had received $640.00 as of 13 Aug 1828.
THOMAS WARD
North Carolina Militia. Thomas was born 3 May 1759 in Guilford Co., NC. He served as a Private in the NC Militia. He mar Mary Margery Pigott 1759-1843. Children: Sarah mar Joshua Moffet; Nancy mar Ellis Kizer; Margery; Mary mar Joseph Moffet; Elizabeth mar Burkett Pierce; Joel; Joab; Lydia mar Thomas Pierce. Thomas died 11 Feb 1839 and was buried in White River Cemetery near Winchester. Source Page 372, Roster of Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Indiana, 1938.
THOMAS WARD
South Carolina Militia. Thomas was b 1761 on the James River in Va. He lived in Cheraw Dist. in that part which became part of Darlington Dist., SC when he enlisted in the SC Militia. He lived SC for 40 yrs after the War and moved to Conecuh Co., AL. in 1822 where he applied for a pension 30 Aug 1842.

Connecticut Militia. Enlisted at Glastonbury, Hartford Co., Ct. He was living there when he applied for a pension 28 Sep 1818 at age 64. In 1820, he had a wife (aged 55). Thomas died 5 Oct 1824.
THOMAS WARD
Connecticut Militia and Continental Service. Thomas was b 6 Oct 1759 at Nine Partners, Dutchess Co., Ny. He enlisted at Mansfield, Ct. in the Connecticut Militia. He later enlisted in Col. Van Cortland's New York Regiment. After the War, he moved to Bennington, Sunderland, Rupert, Dorset and Pawlet Vt. In 1820, he was living with a son, Samuel Ward in Rutland Co., Vt. He applied for a pension 8 Aug 1832 at Pawlet, Vt.; awarded $80.00 annual allowance; received as of 18 Apr 1833: $240.00.
THOMAS WARD
Massachusetts Militia. He was b at Harpswell, Me. He applied for a pension 4 Jun 1818 at Kennebec Co., Ma. (later Me.). In 1820, he was 59 and a resident of China, Me. with wife Mercy (age 52) and ch at home: Ezekiel Ward (18), Eunice Ward (16), Meriam Ward (14), Gorham Ward (13) and Calvin Ward (7).

THOMAS WARD
Pennsylvania Militia. Thomas Ward was b 1759 in England, a son of George Ward and Mary Greer who moved to Hanover, Dolphin Co., Pa. near Harrisburg about 1760. Thomas enlisted at Allentown, Pa. in Wisner's Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia, serving throughout the War. In 1796, he moved to Livingston Co., NY. He mar Mary Howd and they had 5 ch: John Ward (b 1794; mar Olivia Watrous), Samuel Ward, Thomas G. Ward, Elizabeth Ward and Ann Ward.
TIMOTHY WARD
New Jersey Militia. Timothy Ward was b 10 Mar 1760 in Essex Co., NJ. He served in Captain Squires' Company Essex County Militia and also in the NJ State Troops. After the War, he lived for 20 years in Pa., then moved to Ohio for 3 yrs. In 1827, he moved to Dearborn Co., In. where he applied for a pension 14 Aug 1832. He died 3 Jun 1845 and buried in the Olive Branch Graveyard, Pike Township, Ohio County, In.
WELLS WARD
Virginia Militia. Served in Captain Enoch Ozburn's Company of Montgomery County, Virginia Militia, "Muster Roll - a list of persons who hath sworn allegiance to the state in 1777", 29 Sep 1777. (from an area which later became part of Grayson County and Carroll County).
WILLIAM WARD
Georgia Militia. William enlisted in the Georgia Militia. After the War, he moved to Brunswick Co., Va. where he applied for a pension 27 Jul 1818, giving his age as 62. On 25 Dec 1820, he listed his age again as 62.

North Carolina Militia. b. ca 1754 Pa. William lived in Chatham Co., NC when he enlisted in the NC Militia. He mar Lydia Chamness there. William d. 1818, Jackson Hill, Rowan Co., NC. Lydia applied for a widow's pension 4 Jan 1845, aged 91. She died in the spring of 1854, leving ch: William Ward Jr., ??? Ward, Anthony Ward, Susanna Ward, Mary Ward, Stephen Ward, Jonathan Ward and ??? Ward. (some names illegible on document).

North Carolina Militia. William was b 1753 in NC and lived in Pasquotank Co., NC when he enlisted in the North Carolina Militia. He applied for a pension 9 Oct 1832 when living in Greenville Distric, SC. He died 16 Dec 1839, leaving ch: only son Ervin (Erbin ?) Ward was named.

North Carolina Militia. William was born 20 Dec 1753 in Pitt Co., NC and lived in Duplin Co. when he enlisted in the North Carolina Militia. He applied for a pension 21 Aug 1832 when living in Sampson Co., NC.

Virginia Militia. William Ward was b 15 Mar 1758 in Virginia. He died 25 May 1833 and is buried northeast of Covington, Fountain Co., Indiana. He mar Verlinda Harrison (1758-1831). Their ch: Samuel Ward (1779-1803 mar Sarah DeHaven); Ann Ward (1781-1834); Elizabeth Ward; William Harrison Ward; Sarah Ward; John Ward (1790-1853 mar Tamer Masterson); Thomas Ward; Mary Ward; and Benjamin Ward.

Connecticut Militia. William was b 1746 in Springfield, Ma., a son of William Ward Sr. and Mary Smith Cole.

Massachusetts Militia. He applied for a pension 16 Oct 1832 when living in Worceser Co., Ma., aged 75, living at Ashburnham, Ma.

New Jersey Militia. Enlisted in Essex Co., NJ in the NJ Militia. Applied for a pension 28 Jul 1818 when living in Middlesex Co., NJ. In 1820, he was 77 yrs old.
WILLIAM WARD
Pennsylvania Militia. William was b 3 Apr 1756 in Province of Leinster, Ireland. He lived in Cumberland Co., Pa. when he enlisted in the Pa. Militia. After his service, he lived at Bedford, Pa. for 11 1/2 yrs and in Bedford Co. for over 20 yrs where he served as a Commissioner for 7 yrs. He then moved to near Pittsburg, Pa. for one yr; then to Ky. for 11 yrs. In 1818, he moved to Mo. In 1830, he lived in Montgomery Co., Mo. He applied for a pension 12 Jun 1833 when living in Warren Co., Mo. His wife was referred to but not named. The record stated that the Indians killed Richard Delap in 1781 during an engagement at Frankstown, Pa., who was the husband of "sol's wife's mother."
WILLIS WARD Sr.
North Carolina Militia. He mar Margaret Batchelor in 1777. He died 1789. Margaret died 5 Mar 1839, leaving ch: Willis Ward Sr. (b 23 Apr 1789), Thomas Ward, Caleb Ward, Stephen Ward, and Charity Ward (who mar Francis Rackley). The son applied for pension 12 Nov 1844 in Nash Co., NC, aged 56. German W. Ward made affidavit 3 May 1847 in Nash Co., stating the soldier's widow had died 20 Mar 1838 and referred to German's oldest child, Jacky Roseana Ward being b 16 Jan 1837. German was a son of Willis Ward Sr.
ZADOCK WARD
New York Militia. Zadock served as a private in the New York Militia. He received a BLW 4 Aug 1791 which he assiged to Henry Van Ranselar. He applied for a pension 14 Apr 1818 when living in Columbia Co., NY In 1821, he was living at Egremont, Berkshire Co., Ma., aged 60, with his wife, aged 47 and ch who lived with him: Polly (22) and Susan (15).

New Jersey Militia. Enlisted in Essex Co., NJ in the NJ Militia.
ZEBEDIAH WARD
New Jersey Militia. Zebediah was b Dec 1755 in Essex Co., NJ. He moved to New York in 1800 where he lived 12 yrs; then moved to the Indiana Territory. He applied for a pension 26 Oct 1832 in Clark Co., In. He mar Harriet Jones 16 Jul 1828 in Harrison Co., In. He died 10 Jan 1837 in Clark Co. (as officially shown--or 13 Aug 1837 as stated by his wid). Harriett mar 2nd Lewis Franconi 18 Apr 1838 in Clark Co. He died in fall, 1853 in Ky. In 1869, she was living at New Albany, In., aged 67.

New Jersey Militia. Enlisted in Essex Co., NJ in the NJ Militia.
