Alfred Decatur Ward was born 25 Dec 1859 in the Rose Hill community of Duplin County, North Carolina. He studied law and set up practice as an attorney in Duplin County. He was elected as a Democrat to the North Carolina State House of Representatives in 1893.
Alfred was elected from the 7th District to the North Carolina State Senate in 1913.
He married Carolina Virginia Farrior and they had six children. He died 16 Apr 1940 at New Bern, NC and was buried there at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Durbin Ward was born 11 Feb 1819 at Augusta, Kentucky. He moved with his family to Fayette County, Indiana, where he was brought up on a farm. He entered Miami University at age 19 and studied there two years. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1842 and became a law partner with Thomas Corwin with whom he had studied.
He became Prosecuting Attorney of Warren County, Ohio from 1845 to 1851. He was elected in 1851 to the to the Ohio State House of Representatives. He lost a bid as a Democratic candidate for congress in 1856. He also lost a bid as the Democratic candidate for attorney general in 1858. He served as a delegate to the Democratic Party National Conventions of 1860 at Charleston and Baltimore. He served in the union army during the War for Southern Independence. After a crippling wound at Chickamauga, he was brevetted to the rank of brigadier general.
He was appointed United States District Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio in Nov 1866. He was removed by Grant when he became president (who removed most Democrats). Durbin was elected to the Ohio State Senate in 1870. He drafted the new circuit court system of Ohio. He was a delegate to the Democratic Party National Convention of 1884 and offered the name of Allen G. Thurman for president.
Francis P. Ward was elected as a delegate from the 7th District to New York State Constitutional Convention of 1915.
George B. Ward was elected from the 10th District to the California State Assembly and served 1880-1881.
Greg Ward, was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, 4th District and is currently in office in 2002.
Harold G. Ward was born in Chicago, IL. He was an attorney and a Democrat. He served in the US Army during World War I. He was elected from the 31st District to the Illinois State Senate and served 1931-1943. He served as an alternate delegate to the Democratic Party National Convention in 1936 and 1940. He lost a race for Illinois State Attorney General in 1940.
Horatio Ward, of Fort Wayne, In., was elected to the Indiana State Senate in the 1800's.
J. N. Ward was elected from the 6th District as a member of California State Assembly, serving 1858-1859.
James Caswell ("Cash") Ward was born 1794 in Sumter District, South Carolina, a son of John Ward and his wife Martha ("Patsy"). His family later were pioneer settlers of Dale County, Alabama, where he homesteaded. He served on a Commission in 1845 to select a new site for a county seat and the commission moved the county capitol from Daleville to a new community of Newton where a new courthouse was built.
Cash was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1847. He was again elected to the House in 1853 and once again in 1855. He was a highly respected community and political leader in southeast Alabama for several decades.
He married first Delphy Barefield and they had at least seven children. After her death, he married Malissa ???. Cash and his first wife are buried at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Dale County.
Jasper Ward was elected from the 1st Disrict to the New York State Senate and served 1823-1826.
Jerry Ward, of Anchorage, AK., was elected as a Republican to the Alaska State Senate and was serving in office in 1999.
John Bird Ward was born 31 Aug 1853 in Henry County, Alabama, a son of John James Ward and Martha Ward. He was a grandson of James J. Ward and Marinda Parrish. He was elected as a Democrat from Henry County to the Alabama General Assembly House of Representatives and served 1888-1889; 1892-1895 and 1900-1901.
Governor Braxton B. Comer appointed John to the office of Henry County Probate Judge in Apr 1907.
He was once again elected to the Alabama House of Representatives and served 1915-1919. He introduced the act which created the regional Agricultural Schools in Alabama. One was established in Abbeville, Al. and others throughout the state. He was elected to the House for his last term in 1931.
John Bird married Lenora Eveline ("Nora") Newman and they had at least nine children.
John C. Ward of Salem County, NJ was elected as a member of New Jersey State Senate from Salem County, 1894-1896.
John F. Ward, Republican from Millinocket, Me., was elected Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives and served 1947-1948. He was later elected to the Senate and served as President of the Senate of Maine in 1954.
Joseph W. Ward of Caledonia, Livingston County, NY was elected to the New York State Assembly from Livingston County and served 1942-1956.
Lafayette P. ("Lafe") Ward was born 23 Aug 1925 in Mingo County, WV. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He studied law and became an attorney. He was elected as a Democrat to the West Virginia State Senate and served 1971-1982. Lafe lives at Williamson, WV. He is an Episcopalian and member of the American Bar Association, the Elks and Moose clubs.
Loomis Ward was elected from the 25th District to the California State Assembly and served 1871-73.
Newton O. Ward was elected from the 25th District to the Michigan State Senate, serving 1909-1912
R. H. Ward was elected from the 5th District to the California State Assembly and served 1865-67
Stephen Ward was elected from the Southern District to the New York State and served 1780-1787.
Syd Carr Ward was born 10 Mar 1872 in Sumter County, Alabama, a son of David S. Ward and Ann Thomas Holmes. He was a grandson of Solomon and Ann Ward. Syd was a farmer, newspaper editor, merchant and legislator.
Syd was elected to the City Council of Cuba, Al. in 1900 and elected as Mayor in 1901. He was editor of the South Sumter Banner newspaper in 1898. He also owned a store in Cuba.
Syd was elected as a Democrat representinf Sumter County to the Alabama General Assembly House of Representatives in 1903. He was a Mason and member of the Knights of Pythias, Woodmen of the World and was a Methodist.
Syd married Nettie Treadway in 1895 and they had one son.
Thomas M. ("Tom") Ward of Versailles, Woodford County, Ky. was elected as a Democrat from the 30th District to the Kentucky State Senate in 1973. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the primary for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 1975.
Thomson Ward served as a Delegate to Missouri State Constitutional Convention of 1845-1846 from the 8th District.
W. G. Ward of Waseca County, Mn. was elected from the 13th District to the Minnesota State Senate and served 1873-74.
