COLUMBIA, Miss.-- Tabatha Diane ("Tabby") Ott and Lonnie Dean ("Lon") Ward Jr. were married 13 Dec., 1997 at Society Hill Baptist Church in the Society Hill Community near here.
Lon is the son of Lonnie Dean Ward Sr. and Maria t. McNeill, both of Columbia. He is a grandson of Frances Ward and the late Charles ("Buck") Ward of Columbia. His maternal grandparents are Walter and Ronelda Thornhill of Columbia. Lon is 1991 graduate of Columbia High School. He attended Pearl River Community College inPoplarville where he studied criminal justice. He is a police officer for the city of Columbia and also works part-time as a security officer for Marion General Hospital.
Tabby is the daughter of Dennis Lee and Diane Ott of the Society Hill Community. She is a granddaughter of Dott Cochran and the late Odell Cochran and Bob and Oli Ott, also of Society Hill. She is a 1993 graduate of Columbia Academy. She attended Jones County Junior College for one year and then graduated from Pearl River Community College's two-year respiratory therapy program with an Associate's degree in applied science. She has been employed as respiratory therapist at Marion General Hospital here for two years.
Denise Conerly Stewart of Franklinton, La. served as matron of honor; Tonya Emler of Foxworth was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Chastity Knotts Boyd, Leigh Ward, Maria Stringer and Angel Watts, all of Columbia and Amy Vice Freeman, Hattiesburg.
The groom's father served as best man. Groomsmen were Jim Ward, Tim Singley, Van Dawsey, Doyle Beach and Trent Broom, all of Columbia and Bobby Ott and Damon Roberts of Society Hill. Hunter Freeman of Hattiesburg was ring bearer.
The couple honeymooned at Fairfield Bay, Ark. In the Ozark Mountains. They are now making their home in the Spring Cottage community.
MARIETTA, Ga.-- James William Ward III and Margaret Ann Marston, both of Atlanta, were married 14 March at Mount Bethel Methodist Church in Marietta. Dr. Randy Mickler, Rev. Bob Jackson and Jerry Baker officiated.
James is the son of James William Ward Jr. of Columbus, Ga. and Jennifer Ridgeway, Athens, Ga. He is the grand-son of the late Mr. & Mrs. James William Ward Sr. He is a graduate of North Georgia State University and is employed with Camp Mac Inc., in Munford, Ala.
Margaret is the daughter of Mrs. J.P. Marston of Marietta and the late John Park Marston. She is a graduate of Auburn University and is employed by American Management Systems, Birmingham, as a business analyst.
Josie Baker served as maid of honor. The groom's father served as best man. A reception was held following the wedding, at Camerron City Club. The couple is now living in Atlanta.
COLUMBIA, Miss.-- Melanie Ward and John Butler were married here 5 April in one of the most "international" weddings ever held in this small Southern Mississippi city. Guests from eight foreign nations and 26 states attended the event.
Melanie is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Wayne Ward. Wayne is minister of education at First Baptist Church here. Both Melanie and John had friends from all over the world and nation visit for the nuptials. Melanie said she met most of her international friends through her work, while John met his through both his job and during his service with the Peace Corps abroad. One of John's friends, Ravi Suria, is a native of Madras, India. They met as students while attending Tulane University and now live six blocks apart in New York. Suria presented Melanie with a traditional Indian formal dress which he ordered from India just for the occasion. Michael Lewin and Emma Gebbie, borh orig- inally of Perth, Australia and now living in London, England, said they wouldn't have missed the wedding. Melanie and John had attended their wedding in Perth last year.
The many guest were treated to real Southern hospitality and cooking. "It was a good experience. We had a craw-fish boil for them. A majority had never eaten crawfish before. We also had a Southern breakfast with grits and sausage. Most of them thought a biscuit was a cookie," she said, explaining that the word "biscuit" is the word for cookie in England and Australia.
Several of the visitors participated in a local radio broadcast, reading the school lunch menus, giving weather reports and other parts of a program. "They were so impressed with the beauty and friendliness of the people," Melanie said. It will be a long time before Columbia (population about 10,000) sees such an international entourage again.
CARY, NC-- Mr. And Mrs. Carl M. Rogers of Cary announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Stacy Rogers to Frank Jefferson Ward III, both of Apex.
Frank is the son of Mr. And Mrs. F. Jefferson Ward Jr. of Sanford, NC. He is a third year veterinary student at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh. He plans to become a veterinarian after graduation.
Jennifer is a 1995 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is now in her third year at the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
The couple plan a wedding 16 May at First Methodist Church in Cary.
HOUSTON, Tx.-- Joe and Betty Ward celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here 20 Dec. They were married 20 Dec., 1947.
The couple's children are Kathleen, Sharon and Ed Ward.
SEALE, Ala.-- Elie and Juanita Senn Morgan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 6 June with a reception at the Goetchius House. The couple was married 6 June, 1948 in Troy, Alabama. They have two sons, Phillip Morgan of Seale and Roger Morgan of Newnan, Ga. They have two grandchildren.
Juanita Senn was originally from Troy.
