"Cracking the Hard Shell of Washington"

A prophetic word given to Rick Ridings, Feb. 16, 1998

As I was praying this morning, I felt the Lord saying that this is a very strategic time for the "digging of wells" not only in specific congregations, but also for certain cities and regions. For the past year, God has been speaking to me through Genesis 26, where Isaac re-opened the old wells of his father Abraham, which had been stopped up by the Philistines. But it was also a time of digging new wells. This is such a time.

I felt the Lord saying that He has His eye on Washington, D.C. at this time. In His sovereign plan, he has been preparing a "spiritual nut-cracker" which is being formed by what He is doing in Maryland and Virginia. His heart is to bring spiritual pressure from the two sides of this nut-cracker to break open the "hard shell" of Washington, D.C.

To form this "nut-cracker", He has been opening ancient wells in Maryland and Virginia, in areas which have known true spiritual awakenings in the past. Although He is re-opening wells in many churches and cities in these states, there are two wells which have been re-opened to the point that they are beginning to tap into "artesian springs" which will soon result in large numbers coming to the Lord. These two wells are in Baltimore, Md, and in the Tidewater area of VA. I felt that the "focal points" of this particular well digging were in the Rock Church in Baltimore, and Bethel Temple in Hampton, VA. I felt He said that the intercessors in these churches and cities are to not only continue to dig down locally, but also to tunnel through to Washington, D.C. When the tunnels from Maryland and Virginia meet each other in Washington, then a new well will spring up in that desert.

God will reveal to the intercessors how to tunnel to Washington as they wait upon Him. In His timing, they are to come together in Washington to proclaim and sing together "Spring up, O well". The tunneling will be able to get through because breaches have now been made in the diamond-hard wall of Freemasonry around the District of Columbia. These breaches have been made by those praying in humility and repentance, such as the Stand in the Gap gathering of the Promise Keepers.

As I shared this with my wife Patti, she felt the Lord was also saying that the larger work of tunneling and wells, and their impact on Washington is somehow tied into the recognition of what God is doing in joining together in a new way Jewish Messianic and Gentile believers. It is significant that three large, key Messianic congregations are in Philadelphia, Gaithersburg, MD, and Richmond, VA. Intercessors need to ask the Lord to clarify and release the role that Messianic Jews are to play in spiritual awakening in this region, bringing the strength and importance of our Jewish roots to the nutcracker God is developing to help crack open Washington.

It is absolutely vital for us all to remember that these tunnels cannot be dug by any prayers of pride and arrogance, or judgment and accusation toward Washington or its politicians. They will only be dug by those praying in humility and repentance. To those in these surrounding states (especially in Baltimore and Hampton) the Lord says not to fear that the tunneling toward Washington will somehow be a distraction. It is actually this tunneling sideways that will release the tunneling locally to go deeper more quickly and tap into those "artesian wells" that will release the work of the Holy Sprit for the Harvest.
