THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN NORWOOD 1825
In the name of God. Amen! I, John Norwood of the County of Wilkinson and the State of Mississippi do make and declare this my last will and testament.
FIRST; I resign my Soul in the Hands of Almighty God and my body I commit to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors herein after named and all my worldly estate I give and devise as follows,
First, I give and devise to my infant son Lambert Smith Norwood all my Estate of any description both real and personal and for the better maintainance and education of my said infant son untill he shall arrive at an age fit to put out to business I leave to the discretion of my said Executor whatever sum of money out of the proceeds of my Estate he may deem necessary to appropriate annually to his support and education and in case of the death of my said infant son Lambert Smith Norwood, I give and devise all my said estate real and personal as aforesaid to my Brothers Robert Norwood and Nicholas Norwood, to be divided equally between them.
Secondly, I give and bequeath to Conl. Joseph J. Scott my brown race horse known known and distinguished by the name of the (Poney??).
Thirdly, should I die before removing the remains of my deceased wife Elizabeth Norwood to Baltimore as it was originally my intention to do but which circumstances have hitherto prevented. It is my request that she be removed and buried by me on the farm I lately purchased of Joshua J. Scott and that a Tombstone be erected over us with a suitable inscription. The incidental expenses of which to be left entirely to the discretion of my executor aforesaid and (I??) should the said Plantation after my death be disposed of it is my request that one quarter acre of land be reserved for a burying Ground to be neatly (paled??) in.
Lastly, I do hereby constitute nominate and appoint Genl. John (Joor??) Executor of this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five.
July 14th. (Ouchetair??) 1825. In the name of God Amen!___ I, John Norwood being weak of body but sound of mind recollecting that all men are to die do make this Codicil to my last will and testament, that my Executor of my last will do appropriate a sufficient sum of my Estate to remove my bones from this to the State of Mississippi Wilkinson County to my Plantation and there deposit them in my Garden. I also wish him to have the bones of my deceased wife that now lies on the Plantation of Capt. William Tigners of Wilkinson County removed and placed by my side in said Garden.
