THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN NORWOOD 1823
In the name of God, Amen. I John Norwood a Native of Maryland being sick and low in health, but of a sound and disposing frame of mind do make and ordain this my last Will and Testimony hereby revoking all other Wills heretofore by me made.
IMPRIMIS: I give and bequeath unto my friend John (H.??) Dorsey of Baltimore Town all my claims of monies due me from Robert Young of Alexandria both in Law and Equity. I also give and bequeath unto the said John (H.??) Dorsey all my claims of monies due me from the Estate of my Brother Edward Norwoods Estate and now pending in Chancery. I also give and bequeath to the said John (H.??) Dorsey all my claims to a Tract of Land on which my Sister Ruth Norwood resides called Murphy's Lott with this Proviso that whenever my said Sister Ruth Norwood shall return the money together with the Interest which I advanced for her, and for the security of which I obtained a Deed for said Tract of Land called Murphy's Lott, that the said John (H.??) Dorsey or his heirs shall reDeed the said Land again to the said Ruth Norwood, and I hereby appoint the above named John (H.??) Dorsey my sole executor of this my last Will and Testament dated this third day of January 1823 and signed with my own hand the day and date above written.
CODICIL
to the above Will and Testament. It is my Will and desire that my Sister Ruth Norwood shall retain peaceable possession of the Tract of Land called Murphy's Lott during her life. It is my further Will and desire and I enjoin my Executor John (H.??) Dorsey to pay unto Thomas Norwood and to his Daughter Mary and Son Samuel the sum of One Thousand Dollars out of my Estate to them jointly. it is my desire that John (H.??) Dorsey my Executor shall recover the sum of money due me from James Wallace of Bel Air of Harford County the acknowledgement of which debt said Wallace acknowledged to Judge Walter Dorsey and promised before him to pay the same.
