1979 Santana 35 - Ice Nine
Ice Nine is an excellent example of the classy Santana 35 sloop. This racer-cruiser is particularly well-suited to San Francisco sailing, with a well powered and highly adjustable fractional rig that makes sailing in all conditions manageable. There is an active fleet of Santana 35s on the bay for racing and cruising, and parts are readily available from WD Schock. Details on the design and accommodations can be found here: www.santana35.com/s35info.html.
Ice Nine has been extremely well cared for by her 3 past owners. Regular maintenance, constant upgrades, and professional work have been consistent throughout her life. The layout and rigging have set the example for the fleet, and many other boats have copied the innovations on Ice Nine. Interior accommodations were not neglected, with full replacement of sinks, heads, cushions and stove during the past 10 years. And of course, the rigging and sails were upgraded even more aggressively--Ice Nine is equipped with nearly new sails, standing rigging, and running rigging.
Ice Nine is a proven performer in one-design competition and in PHRF. She was the National Champion in the competitive S35 fleet in 1998 and second in 2001, 1st place in the 1998 OYRA Ocean Series, and numerous other victories in one-design and PHRF. Ice Nine is fast! Ice Nine is also a great day-sailing boat; the large cockpit and generous deck space easily accommodates 10 guests or more for day cruises. And she has the right amenities for multi-day cruises for 2-6 people, with spacious 7' bunks, private head, functional galley, cockpit cushions, and more. This is an excellent multi-use boat for a great price!
