Artist Study Project

Project in a nutshell:

a) Read the book.
b) Complete the index card questions/activities.
c) Present what's been learned about the artist in a report that fits with your personal style (e.g. word-processed report, handmade book or booklet, brochure, some other creative format that you think up).

Here's what'll be on the index cards:

1) General timeline of the artist's life (must include year born, year of death, country of origin, significant events in the artist's life)

2) Characteristics/personality traits of the artist

3) Painting style (typical subjects, colors, medium used, size, style)

4) Notes on favorite painting
~ feelings about the painting
~ what you like about it (colors, subject, style)
~ poem or a personal response about the painting

Optional parts of the report:

5) Explain changes in the artist's painting style over time
6) Compare/contrast the artist to his/her contemporaries
7) Poem or personal response to an additional painting by the artist or one of his/her contemporaries
8) Some other ingenious activity that you create

Let's just say that this should be completed by or after Thanksgiving break. However, if it seems that most of you need more time, I will extend the due date. It's actually just fine if you finish at different times. Then the presentations can be staggered, and those of you having trouble putting your work together can get ideas and inspirations from the earlier presentations.

Note:

Many of the artists that you will be studying have pieces in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, or other museums in the area.

It would be ideal if you could visit your artist's painting/s, especially when completing the poem or personal response part of this project.
