Needle Your Way into Knitting
If you would like, I will teach you how to knit this year in 4th grade.
If you are pretty sure you'll want lessons, you may wish to get a headstart. I've listed some excellent book titles for children learning how to knit, as well as some tips on how to get started. Just always remember this: If it feels nearly impossible when you begin, you must trust that it will become as easy as blinking with just a little practice. I promise.

Minimal Preparations
- Purchase a skein of yarn and a pair of knitting needles from any yarn or local craft store (Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michael's, A.C. Moore).
- I suggest beginning with any size between 4 and 10 (you see, knitting needles come in many sizes and those too small or too large may be difficult to handle at first).
- Now either wait until I can teach you, sign up for lessons at the yarn store in Swarthmore (lessons are held every Friday after school!), or visit your local library and check out a book on learning how to knit. Read through the book and see how much you can learn by examining the illustrations. It is possible to teach yourself! It just might take a little longer.
