Glitter 4 Your Soul/Rikki Rockett

A tribute album is very difficult to do and do well. It needs to be a labor of love for the person putting it together to get the best results and not merely a job they're being paid to do. The songs have to be true to the original song and artist and yet have elements of originality from the new performers to entice the listener. If done well, the album should make you want to listen to not only these versions but go out and listen to the original versions as well. Rikki Rockett has succeeded on all counts with the release of his long-awaited solo record, Glitter 4 Your Soul.

This is a collection of 11 songs that are truly representative of the music of the genre and era. Rikki has called upon many of his friends to sing and perform the songs. Vocalists include Jizzy Pearl (Can You Feel It), Gina Shock (Trash), Bret Michaels (Tear It Down), John Corabi (Elected), and even Rikki doing lead vocals (Life's A Gas). I would have liked to heard Rikki sing more than he did on the album (he has a really nice voice). I have to say he did an excellent job matching the vocalist to the song which is what allows him to be both true to the original and produce something new for the listener.

Glitter 4 Your Soul is a tribute to 70's Glitter Rock. Just as Poison has served as an inspiration to the 80s generation, the music on this album served as an inspiration to Rikki Rockett. Knowing that allows you to understand Rikki a little bit better. The album features music from a diverse group of artists that includes Sweet, David Bowie, Gary Glitter, Starz, Alice Cooper, New York Dolls, Mott the Hoople, T. Rex, Angel, and the Rolling Stones. If you expect to hear disco music on this album of 70's music, you'll be sorely disappointed; this is no more disco than Metallica or Beethoven is. However, if you are a fan of rock music, regardless of the era, buy this album. You will not be disappointed.
