The latest thing I have been playing with is metal and/or paper punch
designs. I first learned of this from Jim Suzio. He authored this project for
the Viking Embroidery Club for making luminarias for Christmas. I
just decided to cover an old lampshade using parchment paper for the
embroidery. |

This is a close-up of one of Jim's designs. You may note that the
stitches are not as close together as a regular outline. If they were, the
paper would tear out, so you can't use just any design. You would need to
edit it for this purpose. |

I wanted to try Judy Norwicki's free punch design from Erica's
site but could not find any metal soft enough. I cut a Coke can,
layed it flat and used the inside for the top side since it is silver aluminum.
I used a size 110 Schmetz needle. I taped the aluminum to the bottom of my
hoop and slipped a piece of typing paper underneath so I wouldn't scratch
my machine. It was noisy, but worked fine. Now I have to decide what to do
with it! |
