These pages present five generations of descendants of Charles Dorsey (1736-1809) of the Revolutionary War and of his wife Lydia Dorsey (1740-1796).

For those familiar with the research of Harry Wright Newman, the descendency begins with Charles Dorsey who is listed on p. 132, vol. 2, of Newman's Anne Arundel Gentry (1991), and continues forward for five generations, with emphasis on the descendants of Charles' sons:

Richard Dorsey (1769-1845) and Richard's wife, Sarah Ferguson (1773-1844), of Nelson and Hardin counties in Kentucky.
Beale Dorsey (1758-1822) and Beale's wife, Nancy Stigler (1761-), and their daughter Lydia.

For those not familiar with Newman's work, you will find it a valuable resource for Dorsey research. It's listed on my Bibliography Page, along with many of the other sources used for this information.

Charles and Lydia Dorsey were third cousins. Both were descended from the immigrant Edward Darcy/Dorsey, of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, who came to America in 1642, and of his wife Ann. Charles was descended through his son John, and Lydia through son Edward. Their descent is shown on the following chart.
