Issue: An assertive program to identify and treat all children with mental disorders can significantly reduce disabilities.

Status: Under Construction

Discussion: National epidemeological studies (click here for newsrelease) indicate that 20 percent of children from birth to age 18 have a diagnosable mental disorder and 9 percent of all of these children are impaired to the extent that they meet the Center for mental Health Services definition of "serious emotional disturbance" (SED). Further from ages nine to 18, 13 percent qualify as seriously emotionally disturbed.
