A Year's Struggle

Bishoujo Senshi: A Cultural Reflection
My personal views on how the Bishoujo Senshi series, or any anime for that matter, makes us understand our own culture better.

Two Years of Admiration, A Year of Growth
The title says it all! How I came to make a site for such a splendid warrior.

The Ten Thousandth Visitor
A tribute to the 10,000th visitor who captured my counter image and sent it to me along with his name, URL, and page description.

Ten'ou Harbor Interactive 1998
See what people have to say about Sailor Uranus during my first anniversary special. The sample form they filled up is right below.

August 3, 1998 marks the first year of this Racetrack's first appearance. It was a struggle to be able to come to be recognized for all the hard work that has been poured into this site. Being a newbie had its difficulties. The snubbing of well-known people from elite groups was a hard obstacle to overcome. It wasn't easy getting their attention and respect. And I'm not talking about review groups like the MSquad or the Amazoness Quartet.

There was also this struggle during the time that a certain Momoru Chiba/Jedite/Tyger's Eye (I'm having his SUPPORT Image Thieves Site reported to GeoCities because it has been abandoned for a year), made a muck out of my diplomatic letter to him, bashed my site, and caused unwanted gbook flames here. I submitted him to the Witches 5 Underground Laboratory ^_^ but he now has a nice looking Villains page so I guess everything's okay in his corner now.

The site was also semi-dedicated to a very special person then by the name of Hana Huang (August 1 marks our anniversary). It didn't work out and I abandoned my site for a while to wallow in self-pity (nah, that's an exaggeration ^^;;;). But I guess I had to be thankful for it because the moment I recovered, I came back with an unquenchable thirst for revamps (which I did several times before I finally settled on the look it has now--today is July 13, 1998 12:20 PM GMT8:00).

But there were those who helped me carve my own niche in the BSSM community. One is Rowena Lim. My very first net pal and I didn't know then that her SailorMoon CyberCity was extremely popular. I guess it helped that I knew her weeks before I began studying HTML, the first result of which was the Kitchen Raiders Otaku Fridge which was then located where Dark Echo Grounds of Thunder Senshi stands now. There was also my cousin Naomi whose Fire Senshi's Realm served as my catalyst in creating this Racetrack. Happy anniversary to you, too, cuzzie! (Her anniv's July 12) and her birthday is on August 2, a day before my site's anniv. Other Kraiders (short for Kitchen Raiders) followed her lead and by November we were already known as a group of "wacky cousins". The snubbed Kitchen Raiders' Otaku Fridge still is not visited much but the members had individually grown in their own respective fields. For that I will be eternally happy ^^ Oh, and could I forget Mara K? Well, she's done lots for me like give me moral support and silence Momoru Chiba/Jedite/Tyger's Eye.

It was December when I first met my darling Apatt (I just looove callin' him that 'cause I wanted to annoy him, apparently he wasn't annoyed 'cause he's "honey-ing" me back). I didn't know then that he was popular too. Good thing I knew him before he became recognized by the Amazoness Quartet or I wouldn't be able to stand his ego now (jes' kiddin' darling!). Anyway, his page is full of my links--my once 20+ hits per day has zoomed to 40+ and even 80+ Says it's good enough hits for an individual senshi shrine since a senshi shrine caters to a limited set of audience.

And I would like to give credit to Alex Wang (she's in China right now). She has always reminded me of Haruka, although Alex is the more hyper version 'cause she's always up and about. She's so sweet she does a lot of research work for me even though I don't ask her to do those things.

There were also those people who, since the beginning, were very sincere in my gbook. They had always appreciated all my hard work. And I know they were sincere because they're able to point out the sections they really love and the sections that need improving.

So with these notes, I would like to say that all in all, it has been a fruitful year. I really can't say that my page "rocks" or it's "cool" or it's now one of the elite pages out there. There is still a lot for me to improve and still a lot in this site that I'm not contented with. So I guess my growth hasn't been stunted yet. And for that, I'm truly happy.

Oh, and I'd like to make a special mention: August 3 marks the birthday of Chiba Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen/Endymion. You might like to pay him a tribute at Mamoru Guide. Now ain't that a cute coincidence? ^^

Ruk.
