Arilbred Registrations and Introductions By Sharon McAllister Including Seligmann-McAllister Stock
This is a quick-reference list. The site is still under construction, so if something listed below isn't yet in the Photo Gallery or List of Cultivars just check back later. If its page is already up, a clickable link leads to it – there you'll find both a picture and some additional information about the iris. This list also provides the key information you need to trace something using the Breeder's Digest. Just find the name on this alphabetized list and then use its seedling # to find the cross that produced it in the Breeder's Digest, then continue working back toward foundation stock. Eugene Hunt was one of my mentors when I turned from pollen-daubing to hybridizing and, as you may know, I took care of introducing his selected seedlings after his death in 1981 - so you might expect to find some of his stock listed here and in my Breeder's Digest. It is not. I'm trying to compile a similar digest from his surviving records, but so far haven't been able to piece together enough to justify publication. It does, however, include some introductions by the late Col. Gus Seligmann. He guested some of Gene's selected seedlings, and was thus instrumental in saving them. By then arthritis had made it almost impossible for Gus to continue his own hybridizing program, so I made crosses at his direction, cultured his seeds along with my own, and he grew the resultant seedlings to bloom size - but the lines between "his", "mine", and "ours" grew rather blurry with the passing years. From 1981 through 1985, we used a common numbering system and often neither of us could recall which one a cross belonged to without consulting the records. In that case, the one who made the selection "claimed" it. For this period, I've included all introductions and crosses used for breeding - without respect to "ownership".
