I. gatesii

A large-flowered oncocyclus species native to Turkey and northern Iraq.

Variable in color, usually in tones of silver and grey rather than the burnished tan of this specimen. Ancestor of many historical oncobreds, which it gave characteristic width in an era when most TBs still had relatively narrow form. Its broad, diffuse beard is a prized trait in modern arilbreds.
