The Tribunal of 1197

Political Situation in the Theban Tribunal, following the Tribunal of 1197

Three major issues were discussed at the tribunal of 1197.
  1. Cyprus, and the Eastern Breath. While the Grand Tribunal of 1195 firmly established that Cyprus was a Theban possession, the matter of formal recognition of this covenant waited until this Tribunal. Formal recognition was given. Vis sources on the island being the most decisive issue. A compromise was finally reached where the Eastern Breath received all vis, excluding the twelve ancient sources previously barred by the Tribunal. These vis sources remain the property of the Quaesitors.

The tone of this discussion set that for the rest of the Tribunal. Strong and eloquent arguments were made for the growth and restoration of the Tribunal only being possible through new areas being exploited. Some of the old guard were less than comfortable with this change in status quo.

  2. The Crimea and the Aerie of the Spirit's Breath Chapterhouse: In a close vote the Tribunal voted to recognize the Aerie's chapterhouse on the Crimea. They did this with full-recognition of the political troubles it would cause with Novgorod. This falls into past declarations by the Theban tribunal that the Crimea belonged to them.
  3. Dedication of the Theban Academy: The Theban Academy sought and received a Tribunal Dedication towards their research in integrating Hermetic magic and society into the wider world. They were given a tax to be levied against each covenant of 10-pawns of vis per Olympiad, to last for the next ten Olympiads.
  4. Ostracism: A lesser Ostracism was voted upon. By the draw, Zela was choosen.
