This sanctum was discovered by Stentor in his investigations. There is a hidden door that brings forth the door and a very ornate gateway. Upon the edges of the door are carved the Verditus runes for Rego and Vim many dozens of times. Above the door is a stylized carving of Criamon the Founder, and at the base of the door is a near exact replica of a section of the mosaic in the Hall of Victory. An eyeless old woman faced down two figures: a handsome woman and an old, contemplative man. Stentor summarizes that he has found one of the sancta of the Criamon who stood upon the Council of Nine in 949 Age of Aries.
A similar stone is part of the floor inside the sanctum. When pressed the door disappears; the markings upon the stone are very similar to ones that Stentor had seen in a tome at Phlebouros -- a riddle. The answer, simply enough, is the Enigma itself -- and the door reopens when demanded, by the Enigma, that it do so.
Within is a nearly complete laboratory, although several of the reagents had spoiled over the centuries. Arrayed along the benches were the remains of what appeared to be some sort of experiment involving several of the elements. Charred remains of laboratory notes filled the hearth at one end of the room, but even more disconcerting were the streaks of blood which ran the length of two of the four larger benches. Careful inspection of the laboratory revealed many of the esoteric devices -- as well as several apprentice riddles which Stentor took back to his laboratory. Stentor found absolutely no items imbued with power in this laboratory. He made use of much of the equipment here for his own laboratories.
He found two interesting artifacts there. A cord, which served as a bookmark, which has two weights - discs - at either end. Upon one is a crescent moon, and upon its reverse is a detailed night sky. The other has a gibbous moon with a sun upon a blue background. The cord itself is a ribbon of finest silvery silk, but sturdy and bright, as if time had not touched it at all. The entirety of the cord and its weights glowed when investigated.
The book in which the cord was found is odd. The contents are in a curious code, each character carefully drawn, as if it were important for each angle to be perfect.
Of the departed magus's other effects, nothing was found. Stentor has taken the book and cord to the library.
This magus of the Gauntlet of the Four Quarters was obssessed with Eternity and the nature of the Lunar Sphere. His sanctum is near the south side of the crater. It has one gigantic window facing south. This window was created using great Terram magics which destroyed the opaque qualities of the rock, allowing pure transperancy, without losing the protection afforded. The plastered walls are covered in Greek shorthand, the notes of Auriolanus' greatest experiment.
Auriolanus attempted to summon an elemental creature that existed in the realm of air just below the lunar sphere. He succeeded, to his detriment. The contents to this sanctum are the remains of that endeavor.
