The Green Eggs Report - A list of links that have been mentioned in the newsgroup
alt.quotations.
Philosophy Quotations - New and improved! A huge group of links to philosophy quotation
sites. This site also includes
links to biographies of philosophers and many other sources. Brought to you by Peter Suber
of Earlham College.
The Library Spot - This site includes a small collection of quotation links, but more
importantly, links you to
encyclopedias where you can look up the authors to the quotes you like the best.
Collections of Quotations
Bartlett's Familiar Quotations - The classic quotations reference, brought online by
Project Bartleby. It's the 9th Edition
(c) 1901, but still an excellent resource. Searchable, too!
Cole's Quotables - Includes nine large and well-attributed collections of quotes. One of
my favorites. This collection is
also available in the Quote Search and Random Quotations pages.
Quotations Home Page by Steve Spanoudis - Many (about 15,000) quotes, organized into 30
loosely-defined
categories. Most with attributions. One of the best pages out there.
The Quotation Guide - An easily accessible group of quotes. Organized by a large group of
subjects. Courtesy of Mike
Rosenberg.
The Quotation Guide - A good database, organized by category. Allows you to add quotes,
even. Provided by Kerrie
DeGood.
"I Can't Believe They Said That" - A hilarious collection of quotes from famous
people. "real people. real quotes. real
stupid." Simple mistakes in speaking that end up being funny.
Mary Van Sell's Quotation Collection - Quote collection ordered by author's last name and
other quotation links.
Good Quotes by Famous People - A single page of quotes compiled by Professor Gabriel
Robins. A small collection,
but a good one.

from previous issues is provided

search by author and search by
subject. This service is provided by Cyber Nation.

Thinking Quotes - A unique collection of quotes. Check out the quotes from from Foucault's
Pendulum by Umberto
Eco. Organized by author.
A Journey In Word - A large collection of quotes meant to be read like a book. There is no
sort of organization or any
search feature, but you can listen to a song by Cyndi Craven while you read the quotes
(don't be scared, there is a stop
button if you don't want to listen to the music; it's not compulsory).
Cyber-Quotations - A collection of over 1500 quotes. It has no particular organization,
which makes it difficult to look
up anything specifically, but you can download a search program. Most of the quotes
contain attributions.
Bill's World: Words - A good collection of quotes, most from recent magazines and news.
Many unique ones here.
Quotations organized by the date they were published.
Christopher's Favorite Quotes - A site of quotations organized alphabetically by author
with simple attributes. Don't let
all the Anonymous quotations at the beginning scare you, he has quite a few quotes that
aren't Anonymous. You can
search this page using your browser's search function.
Quotes For The Surfer - A collection of quotations organized by subject with simple
attributes. If you are looking for
quotations from eastern thinkers, you will be more likely to find one here.
World Wide Wit - Provided by Women Journeys (An Empowerment Place), this quotation
collection is organized by
sex (men, women and anonymous). The attributes to the quotations are quite good, though
(in some cases, recognizing
the work and year). Takes a little time to download, but after it's finished with its Java
presentation, feel free to browse.
Favorite Quotations - Provided by RL Graphics, this collection is organized by subject.
Considering its size, it
downloads rather quickly. With fully-attributed quotes, this site has a wonderful
paragraph about citing quotations.
Please read it!
Specialized Collections
A short Dictionary of Scientific Quotations - A collection of scientific quotations
organized alphabetically by author. It
sports fantastic attributes and easy to read format (no fancy pictures or silly
introductions, just the quotes). Hosted by
Natural Science Internet Magazine.
Physlink - "The Ultimate Physics Resource" Not only can you read a quote on
their page, you can sign up for a weekly
quotation that goes to your email. You can even download their directory of quotations.
Quotations from the Writings of Thomas Jefferson at Thomas Jefferson on Politics &
Government
Wisdom Quotes - Unlike most geocities web pages, this quotation page is tasteful and well
designed. It loads quickly
and has a rather large collection. The non-frames version is just as useful as the frames
version, so feel free to explore.
Contra-Diction - A small collection of quotes that seemingly contradict one another. They
are arranged by subject, of
course and are very funny to read. A great idea for a quotations page.
Cafe Thought - Quotes about music and existential thought. The quotes have simple
attributes, and the it's searchable
with your browser's find in frame function. This is a pretty site, with well-developed
graphics.
The Most Awesome Quotes Of All Times - A funny collection of quotes with simple
attributes, you may have a difficult
time navigating and finding them, however. There is also a links page with a few links.

allowed for free online.
Shakespearean Quotes available through Bartlett's Familiar Shakespearean Quotations - The
1901 Edition
The Works of the Bard - Doesn't have a list of quotations, but you could surely create
your own from this wonderful
search engine. I played with it, checking for my favorites, and found many more to add to
my collection. Try it out.
Mathematical Quotations courtesy of Furman University. These are not necessarily quotes
about mathematics, although
that is the bulk of those listed. Read Gauss's quote about writing. I find it funnier than
many quotes in some humorous
collections.
The Book of Cliches - A simple collection of over-heard phrases. No attributes, even
though some of these phrases
were originally said by really famous people.
Platonic Realms - More mathematical quotations organized by author. There is not search
function, but the quotes are
interesting (check out Goethe's quotes). Although I usually hate backgrounds, the fractal
background on this page is
fairly unobtrusive Check it out.
Advertising Quotes - A huge collection of quotes related to the subject of advertising.
Includes an index of about 100
subcategories, and full attributions for almost all quotes.
Christian poems, stories and quotes from Aspiring To Greatness. There are many
non-denominational quotes there

groups: Customer Service
and Sales, Motivational & Positive Quotes, and Inspirational Quotes.
Good Thinking Quotes - Another quote collection devoted to motivational quotations from
the good people at Patrick
Comb's www.goodthink.com (reminds me of the doublespeak in George Orwell's 1984, but
that's another story).
Poets on Writing - On the first Monday of each month, a random quote is generated from the
collection, Poem Me No
Poems: Poets on Writing.
Bad Lemming's Favorite Quotes - A small collection of inspirational quotations.
Strat's Place Wine Quotes - A collection of quotes about wine and drinking. Also includes
links to other quotation sites.
Babylon 5 Quotes - A personal collection of funny and philosophical quotes from the
popular science fiction television
show, Babylon 5.
FashionQuote.com - This collection is best enjoyed by the voyeurist. One quotation per day
(good quotes with
attributes) is provided with a new picture of a fashion model. The archive is organized by
date, so don't imagine that you
could search for a quotation at this site. Just go there every day, look at the pretty
woman and read the quotation.
Quotations by Writers - The name describes it all, with a wide variety of authors to
choose from, there is something here
for everyone. This site has more Dorothy Parker quotations than you can shake a stick at
(she's the ruler I use to
measure the worth of most quotation related things). Despite pictures of the authors and
multiple quotations for each, the
pages download very quickly.
The Daily Inspirational Quotation - A new quotation provided each day by Follow Your
Dreams. This site also allows
you to submit a virtual inspirational postcard to friends or family. The graphics take
time to download, so be prepared to
wait.
Quote Subscriptions
The Weekly Escape - A weekly quotation service that also provides a puzzle or riddle and
historical data for the week.
The quotations are gathered from Michael and Laura Moncur's Quotation pages.
Charlie Fink's Quote of the Week A quote is chosen weekly and emailed to the subscribers.
Additionally, it is placed on
this Quote of the Week site. You may access the entire list of quotations that the site
draws its quotes from, listed by
author or subject (It does take a little time to download so be prepared to wait.).
Inspirational essays are also available.
Rainbow Internet Marketing Quote Of the Day Page More email quotations for you here. Daily
email quotes
(approximately 20) are sent to your address. Past quotations are only accessible by the
date they were transmitted, so
don't even try to search for anything useful here.
Outside the Web
alt.quotations - The newsgroup for quotation-related questions and discussions. Created by
Michael Moncur back in
1992.
The quotations archive at the University of British Columbia - many collections from the
net.
Software and Products Available
The Knowledge Machine - This shareware program provides a vocabulary word and famous
quotation each day. It
downloaded rather quickly and I played with it for awhile. Some of the quotes are
misquoted and not attributed
correctly, but most are motivational. It runs under Windows and Windows 95 and is
available for download from The
Galt Shareware Zone.
Quotes for Today - From WizardWare. This program for Windows 95 can show a quote at
startup or shutdown. You
can also add new quotes to personalize this program. You might be able to download this
from the
Home/Education/Reference Software from Galt Shareware Zone (we had some problems with the
download).
Karen Shader Designs - This is not a link to quotation software. Instead, this site
features matted prints with quotations.
There is a small list of quotations available for you to see and all the prints are
available for purchase. If you are looking
for something to hang in your living room that isn't "Footprints in the Sand" or
some Mary Englebreit atrocity, then this is
the place for you.
