TYLER: Welcome to "Who's Your Lifeline?" I'm your host, Regis Phillben. Let's meet today's contestants: Mr. Colby Lowell from Lake Forest, IL; Miss Elise Holmstrom from Lake Bluff, IL; Mr. David Nystrom from Lake Forest, IL; and Miss Sara Jowers from Libertyville, IL. For a chance at the hot seat, be the first to answer this fastest finger question: Put these books of the Bible in the correct order: A. Luke, B. Matthew, C. John, D. Mark. (pause) Time's up! The correct order is B,D,A,C. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The quickest contestant was Mr. David Nystrom! (David gets up and moves into hot seat, Tyler and David shake hands) So, David, tell us about yourself. DAVID: I'm a freshman at Lake Forest High School, and my interests include... (adlib here if desired) TYLER: David, you know the rules. You'll need to answer 6 questions correctly in order to win the grand prize. You have 3 lifelines you can use if you need them, "ask the congregation, 50/50, and phone a friend." Are you ready? DAVID: Yes! TYLER: Let's play, "Who's Your Lifeline?" The first question, for the prize of strength of knowledge, is: In a traditional Lutheran worship service, what comes after the first reading? A. Gospel B. Psalm C. 2nd reading D. Prayer of the Day DAVID: Regis, the answer is B. the psalm. TYLER: Correct! The second question, for strength of character, is: Where is the St. James youth group going on their work trip this summer? A. Blue Ridge Indian Reservation B. Pine Tree Indian Reservation C. Pine Ridge Indian Reservation C. Blue Man Group DAVID: The answer is C. Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota TYLER: Correct again! Question 3, for humility, is: There are 2 adults chaperoning the youth group's work trip this summer. The male chaperone is Mr. Bergsrud. Who is the female chaperone? A. Mrs. Holmstrom B. Mrs. Owen C. Mrs. Eck D. Yet to be determined. DAVID: I think I know the answer, but I want to be sure. I'd like to use my 50/50 lifeline. TYLER: Ok, I'll take away two wrong answers. The 2 remaining answers are A. Mrs. Holmstrom and D. Yet to be determined. DAVID: Just as I thought. It's got to be A. Mrs. Holmstrom. She volunteers for tons of things here at church! TYLER: Final answer? DAVID: Yes. TYLER: I'm sorry, David. Although Mrs. Holmstrom does volunteer for practically everything, she is not one of the chaperones for the work trip. The female chaperone for the work trip has yet to be determined. You have won strength of knowledge and character. Thank you for playing. (David shakes Tyler's hands and exits the playing area). Nice guy. Well, let's see who our next contestant is. Here's the fastest finger question: Put the Lowell family children in order from oldest to youngest: A. Colby B. Tyler C. Barrett D. Courtney Time's up! The correct answer is C,B,A,D. Barrett, Tyler, Colby, Courtney. The person with the fastest finger is Colby Lowell! It probably helped a lot that he is a part of the family in question... (Colby comes up and shakes Tyler's hand) Welcome to the hot seat, Colby. Tell us a little about yourself. COLBY: adlibs TYLER: Colby, you know the rules. You'll need to answer 6 questions correctly in order to win the grand prize. You have 3 lifelines you can use if you need them, "ask the congregation, 50/50, and phone a friend." Are you ready? COLBY: Yes! TYLER: Let's play, "Who's Your Lifeline?" The first question, for the prize of strength of knowledge, is: According to today's Gospel reading, how many fish were in the net? A. 153 B. 133 C. 163 D. 0 COLBY: I always listen closely to the gospel reading. The answer is A. 153 fish. TYLER: Correct! The second question, for strength of character, is: On what date is the St. James youth group hosting a car wash to raise funds for their work trip? A. today! B. Sunday, May 13 C. Saturday, May 5 D. Sunday, May 6 COLBY: Well I know it's not today and I doubt it would be held on a Saturday since no one will be at church then with a dirty car. That leaves B and D. Let me think... Mother's Day is May 13 so we wouldn't want to take any time away from our moms on that day. Regis, the answer must be D. Sunday May 6. TYLER: Correct! Colby, make sure your family drives at least 2 separate cars to church that day! Since you always pay close attention to the readings, this next question should be no problem for you: Simon was the son of whom? A. Peter B. John C. David D. Pastor Gazzollo COLBY: That's easy since I paid attention... the answer is B. John. TYLER: Final answer? COLBY: Yes. TYLER: Right again! You're on a roll! The fourth question, for the prize of strength of faith, is: Finish the song: Allelulia, Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of: A. eternal power B. eternal life C. maternal life D. fraternal strength COLBY: sings song, ending with "you have the words of eternal life, alleluia." Regis, my final answer is B, eternal life. TYLER: Eternal life it is! You are doing well, Colby. You're just 2 away from the grand prize. Your next question, for the reward of empathy, comes again from the gospel lesson. COLBY: There sure is a lot to learn from the gospel lesson. TYLER: That's for sure. Why did Simon Peter jump out of the boat? A. He was hot B. he was bored C. he went to meet Jesus on the shore D. he wanted to walk on water COLBY: Well, he wasn't hot or bored. He was so excited to see Jesus that he jumped out of the boat and went to meet him on the shore. Regis, the answer is C. TYLER: Final answer? COLBY: Yes TYLER: Correct! You are up to the grand prize question, Colby. You are becoming a better and better person every minute. Are you ready for your final question and the prize of eternal happiness? COLBY: Can't wait! TYLER: What is the most important thing that Jesus asks Simon Peter to do? A. Mow the lawn B. Heal the sick C. Serve the needy D. Follow me COLBY: Jesus wants us to do the 3 last things. I'm not sure what the most important one for Simon Peter would be. I'd like to use a lifeline, Regis. I'm going to ask the congregation. TYLER: All right, congregation, with a show of hands. What is the most important thing that Jesus asks Simon Peter to do? A. Mow the lawn (stop and pretend to count after each choice) B. Heal the sick C. Serve the needy D. Follow me CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING RESPONSES BASED ON THE CONGREGATION'S VOTING RESPONSE: * Well, the audience seems split on their decision. The decision is yours, Colby. * Well, the audience seems pretty sure that the answer is D, follow me. What do you think, Colby? COLBY: I want to be absolutely sure about this one. I'm going to use another lifeline. I'd like to phone a friend, Regis. TYLER: Who would you like to call? COLBY: I'd like to call on God. TYLER: Well, our friends at AT&T might have a hard time with that. Let's see if Pastor Gazzollo can help us get in touch with God. Pastor Gazzollo walks out and hands a Bible to Colby, saying: PASTOR GAZZOLLO: You can always turn to God as your one true lifeline, Colby. COLBY: Thank you. (takes Bible, opens to passage and reads silently) Regis, the most important thing that Jesus asks Simon Peter to do is to follow him. The correct answer is D. follow me. TYLER: Is that your final answer for the grand prize, Colby? COLBY: Final answer. TYLER: You're right! You win! You turned to God and he showed you the way. Colby, congratulations! You have earned strength of knowledge, strength of character, humility, empathy, and strength of faith, and eternal happiness! Way to go, Colby! (shake hands, hug, etc)
