Giant Children
Giant Children --written by Brod Bagert, illustrated by Tedd Arnold--Dial Books for Young Readers, fall of 2002
Did you ever have a goblin in your throat that made you say things you didn't mean? Have you ever found a buffalo in the library eating the very book you wanted? Have you ever heard swamp stomp rock and roll? I never did either, until, that is, I started illustrating the zany poems of Brod Bagert. Brod visits schools all the time. One activity he enjoys is to take his computer into a classroom and project the screen image onto the wall so the kids can see what he's doing. Then he proceeds to compose a poem while they watch. He thinks out loud, writes, and revises and the students get to witness the actual creation of a poem. Many of the poems in this book were first written during one of his classroom visits!!!
