GREEN WILMA
The idea for GREEN WILMA came while I was
writing nonsense rhymes about all the different colors--red,
yellow, blue, and so on. I liked the green rhyme best. At first
it was only three verses long. When I decided to make it into a
book, I realized it wasn't long enough. So I added all the stuff
about her going to school. Miller's Pond, where she lives, is a
small pond here in Elmira. When I was a little boy, my
grandmother lived on Miller's Pond. While we visited her, I loved
to run along the shores of the pond and chase frogs into the
water.
