Reaction To Video Lesson 7 {323 words}

From Lesson 5, I saw some of the importance of the Literature Review. Studying general literature is the first step towards identifying a research problem, and this part of the process is also useful for seeing what work has already been done by others. With this lesson, I am starting to enjoy Dr. Norman’s teaching style more, and I am also starting to understand a little more about research proposals, in general.

Right now, I am telling myself that it would be wise to write down some ideas for my Research Proposal so that I can begin my "informal" Literature Review. I know what types of research appeal to me, but I do not know if they are relevant to the Counseling community or if any of them have been done before. I am also telling myself that I want to be sure to review my notes from this lesson once I get into the Literature Review so that I will not forget anything.

Dr. Norman stressed the importance of being thorough in the review of literature but not exhaustive. He also mentioned that we should be careful to stick only to relevant literature. Just listening to this class is making me think that the Literature Review will be very difficult. Therefore, I am feeling the excitement of the challenge but also the anxiety of not being able to do the work. Oh well, I have felt this emotion many times in the past, and I know that it will pass once I actually begin to do the work.

One suggestion was made in class that I may not have thought about otherwise, and I liked that. Dr. Norman said that we should review later literature before earlier literature so that we can get some additional, older references. What he said made perfect sense, but I do not think I have ever heard it expressed that way before.
