James Hughes (circa 1735 - Sep 1808 at Washington Co, PA) married Mary _______ (circa 1748 - 1795, presumably at Washington Co, PA). James was enumerated as a blacksmith in Strabane Twp. in 1795, 1796, and 1799. He purchased land on Chartiers Creek from Isaac Israel on 25 Nov 1786. Both James and Mary attended Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church and both are buried in the churchyard.

John Hughes (circa 1773 - 6 Apr 1843 at North Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA) married 1st circa 1801, Margaret Logan (circa 1777 - 1815 at Washington Co, PA), the daughter of Samuel Logan and Rebecca Walker. John married 2nd on 31 Dec 1810, Elizabeth G Clokey (circa 1783 at County Down, Ireland - 23 Sep 1849 at North Strabane Twp), the daughter of Joseph Clokey and Elizabeth Mitchell. John and both wives are buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

Mary "Polly" Hughes (18 Aug 1802 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 20 Aug 1879 at North Strabane Twp.) married circa 1828 as his 2nd wife, John Rankin (1789 at Washington Co, PA - 16 May 1862 at North Strabane Twp.), the son of John Rankin and Hannah _______. John and Polly are buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

Samuel L Hughes (11 Sep 1805 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 22 Jul 1878 at Canonsburg, PA) married Manella McClelland (1 Jun 1810 - 5 Jul 1863 at Canonsburg), daughter of Robert McClelland and Anna Officer. Samuel and Manella moved to Canonsburg shortly after their marriage. They are buried at Oak Springs Cemetery.

General Robert Patterson Hughes (1839 at North Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 11 Apr 1909) was a career officer in the United States Army. As a Lieutenant in 1876, he served as an aide-de-camp to Major General Alfred Terry on the western campaign in which Custer's massacre at Little Big Horn occurred. He served as a Brigadier General in the Vasayan District of the Philippines in 1899. 45 items from his life between 1898 and 1909 are found in the Manuscript Section of the Library of Congress.

James Hughes (circa 1841 at North Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - May 1864 at Washington, DC) was mustered into the 140th PA Volunteer Infantry on 19 Jun 1861 at Washington, PA. He was promoted to the rank of 1st Sergeant, but was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia on 10 May 1864 and died in a military hospital.

Joseph C Hughes (circa 1807 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA) married in Nov 1844, Mary Ann Raley (1819 - 13 Feb 1899 at Washington Co, PA). Joseph was a stage driver at West Bethlehem Twp in 1850, but by 1860 was a hostler in Washington Borough. He is buried at Washington Cemetery.

Elizabeth Hughes (circa 1814 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 5 Sep 1829, same). She is buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

James Hughes (Jul 1819 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 28 Mar 1820, same). He is buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

Elizabeth Jane Hughes (Jul 1821 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 5 Sep 1822, same). She is buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

John A Hughes (circa 1823 at Washington Co, PA) married 1st on 16 Sep 1845, Elizabeth McDonough (???? - before 1847 at Washington Co, PA), daughter of John McDonough. John married 2nd on 7 Mar 1850, Elizabeth Ann Adams (circa 1831), daughter of Dr. David Adams.

James M Hughes (1825 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 20 May 1850 at Mt. Vernon, OH) married on 22 Feb 1849, Levina C Riddle, daughter of David Riddle of Somerset Twp, Washington Co, PA. James is buried at Oak Springs Cemetery at Canonsburg, PA.

Elizabeth K Hughes (Apr 1831 at Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA - 9 Jul 1831, same). She is buried at Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Cemetery.

James Hughes (circa 1780 - circa 1852 at North Strabane Twp, Washington Co, PA). In his will, James mentions many of his nieces, nephews, and their spouses.

Mary "Polly" Hughes married on 19 May 1823 at Washington Co, PA, Israel Bebout.
