"Another One Bites"

"Trip Diary, Summer Party, Gresvik 2009"

Day 3

I could have slept all day but a little panic had developed at home and Monica needed to talk to me about it. I tried to go back to sleep but for me that's practically impossible so I made some tea and began packing so I wouldn't have to do it later.

Once I was ready I grabbed my laptop and headed to the only open bar at the riverfront. The trendy ones had only closed an hour or so before…

I needed to work on this diary, on the notes for the new CD booklet and a new chapter for the Russian language version of my book.

I was so happy to have this day off and the plan was to drink a little white wine, snack a bit and just generally enjoy being by the water and relaxing.

I was about 20 minutes into this plan when Terje & Hilde introduced themselves! As big fans who had come to Fredrikstad from Oslo especially for the show, we enjoyed some pleasant conversation and after about 45 minutes I turned back to my laptop….. and turned it off!!

I must remember to pray for Terje.

I know this should be obvious but it seems not to be.

I think most musicians know who it is that is paying their bills…. It's the fans. But I am not sure the fans fully understand either this fact or their overall importance within the relationship.

If there were no fans there would be no music and little or no incentive to create, record and perform it. It's really as simple as that.

If there were no fans, I would be doing something else, but it wouldn't be all bad because we wouldn't have record companies trying to tell us what to record and trying to tell you what to buy and listen to!

Maybe only the few good ones will survive the current economic crisis??!!

And I saw a boat with a cool name…. "Legally Blonde" …. And I saw a lot of boats with not-so-cool names but I liked the idea of being out on the water so, when Petter and Eric texted me an invitation to go out with a friend, I tried to say no but eventually gave in and joined them for a 1-hour slow ride in a really nice boat out to an island where Johnny had a weekend cabin. Around the corner to a small restaurant and some more delicious seafood, washed down with a decent Chardonnay, which was beginning to displace my blood supply!

Spontaneous singing and guitar playing broke out at another table (the only other occupied one in the place actually) and quickly migrated to our table.

It was a fun night and an excellent way to end a lazy day.
