Back To Winter….

Day 5:

ZDF is the biggest TV station Europe and the complex of buildings is massive but we were able to find the location for ¨Fernsehgarten¨ easily enough and things were really well organised so it all started out well.

The backstage facilities were a bit ¨limited¨ and we spent a lot of time waiting (this is normal for TV shows) but it was all run very professionally so our time slots came and went smoothly.

It was all ¨playback¨ so I just had to concentrate on remembering the original arrangement of Lady In Black.

Because we were headlining this show we got to do two songs and I had prepared a specially edited version of We´re on our Way for our first song.

Fernsehgarten is a weekly outdoor show on ZDF that runs from May to September and this edition was special because it was the first of the year and the station´s 300th broadcast. There will be around 5000 people in the live audience and an estimated 3.5 million in the TV audience so it´s a real honour to be doing this show.

In the end the whole rehearsal ran about 20 minutes behind schedule which is amazing when you think that this was to be a two-hour live broadcast.

The entire venue is set up as a giant spectacle with jugglers, people skipping rope, an aerobatic display and even a guy banging nails into a piece of wood with his elbow!! (I know, it sounds like a Monty Python sketch but this is a family show!). Oh and lots of adorable kids dancing jumping and screaming.

It´s going to be fun.

Back to the hotel, down the road for a traditional German dinner and then ….. bed!

Another long day tomorrow.
