Back To Winter….
Day 11:
Show day and
the band trickled into town until we were ready for sound check. Glenn was
playing last so we did our sound check right after him and it sounded pretty
cool. The band is growing in confidence all the time but I have learned from
experience that you can´t let up. You have to keep searching for the best and we
seem to be getting closer.
I have given
Eric almost all of the lead vocals now and I am settling into a role that
resembles the one I had with Heep. I am very comfortable with that. Eric´s a
great singer and he is developing into a great front-man too.
After lunch I
went to my room and took a 105-minute siesta! Wow! Just what the doctor ordered.
And by now the
hotel was swarming with fans which made the short walk to the backstage area
quite amusing.
This event is
entirely staged at the Radisson SAS Hotel which is a sprawling complex,
especially built for the winter Olympics and there were happenings and
mini-concerts going on in various areas all the time.
But the main
stage was running late because one of the lesser-known support bands decided to
play an extra 20 minutes. Ignorant really but it could have been handled better
in my opinion.
Anyway we went
on stage at 11:55pm and smoked our way through a 75-minute set that the crowd
loved and sang their way along with. It was a really great gig and the
atmosphere during and after the show was fantastic.
I know Glenn
wasn´t happy about going on so late and we dropped our encore in an effort to
help but the crowd wouldn´t stop singing the chorus of Lady In Black so it was a
bit out of our hands really.
I eventually
made it back to my room, dodging a few people who were staggering very well and,
as I shut the door behind me, I thanked God for a lot of answered prayers.
Tomorrow I
get to go home. I am looking forward to that.
