Day 5 - June 17th 2007

Sunday

To bed at 2 and up at 5!  Left the hotel at exactly 6 and arrived at the airport exactly on time to check in for my flight to Hamburg.  It’s not a long flight so maybe I was thinking that maybe I can grab a nap when I get there but, NOOOOOO!

I was able to move into my room, shower and get ready before Ronald picked me up to go to Wackelpeter, a very special shop in Hamburg, founded by Jurgen Jakobsen, the boss of Membran and staffed by handicapped people, two of which are his own.  The shop and the people of the area were celebrating their 3rd anniversary and I was there to sign CDs etc.

My first experience of this place was what inspired Monica and myself to open a small version of it in the village near us as part of the “Esperanza” project.

They had jazz bands, big bands and senior and junior marching bands, beer, kebabs and just about everything you need to have a good time.  It was low-key and low-stress but it was a lot of fun.

We had dinner at one of the great restaurants that my friends at Membran like to go to and they had made arrangements to sit at a table close enough to the big TV screen so I/we could watch the race.  It doesn’t get much better than that!

Festivities ended early.  Everyone was tired from working hard all weekend and I was thankful to get to bed early as we have a lot of meetings tomorrow.

Next day...
