September 21st 2003

Had to get up a bit earlier than I wanted to today because I need to be in Donesk for a live TV show by 1pm (ish) but six hours in a real bed is worth more than ten on a train and I was feeling more rested than yesterday as we climbed into the bus for the 2 ½ hour drive. I am writing this part on the bus and the roads are not very good so forgive any unusual spelling!

As usual, one TV interview (actually to benefit the tour sponsors as I found out later) turned into two plus a live radio interview but we eventually arrived at the venue where all was well!

This is a very “developed” town with lots of obvious signs of money and they even managed to find a “stretch” Lincoln Continental limo for me to travel around in! Of course it was a bit ancient but, considering where we were it was a surprise.

The theatre was old but it sounded good. Sound check went smoothly enough and I went to my “quiet place” to find some energy!

The show itself went well and Jorge said it sounded good out front. The show was sold out, the crowd was enthusiastic and noisy (in a good way) but for me it was a difficult night. Can’t really be too specific, I just felt “disconnected”. That happens from time to time and I am sure our hectic schedule has a something to do with it but we know we gave the audience what they came for and more and that’s what really matters to me!

We were invited to a biker bar for dinner and they picked the band up in a converted Brinks security truck which was really cool. The club was more like a four-star restaurant actually and they couldn’t have been nicer to us. The food was good and the guys were having a good time but I was tired and still a little pre-occupied with my strange evening so I opted to go back to the hotel after dinner. We had another early start so it was the smart thing to do.

The hotel was spectacular which is usually what happens when I am only going to be there for a few hours!! I was happy to see my bed though!

Next day...
