September 28th 2003
It was only 180 kms to Moscow and we were all very
happy to get there. Jorge and Fabian had never been there so they
used a lot of film as we rode into town over the bridge that passes
the Kremlin. It was an unusually nice and sunny day and Moscow looked
brighter and cleaner than normal.
We checked in to the hotel and went to the club (B2) for lunch before
sound check. This was the only club show on the tour and probably
a wise choice since Sundays are traditionally not good days for
concerts. One of the crew spoke good English but obviously didn't
read it as there were many things missing from the rider but they
were able to get it together in plenty of time. Being a late show
we had time to go back to the hotel and clean up and everyone was
excited about tonight.
It was a really, really great night. Somehow clubs just encourage
a better vibe and not having a huge orchestra pit between the audience
and us definitely made for a more intimate event. I had been preserving
my voice a bit over the last few shows (9 shows in 10 days is a
bit much!) so I was able to let it go tonight and it felt good.
We had an impromptu party afterwards and then headed down for dinner.
It was another late night but with a late flight to Madrid the following
day, the atmosphere was a lot less "inhibited" and everyone
felt that, despite the many difficulties, it had been a successful
tour.
Apart from two big private shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow I
won't be back here until next April and, by then, I will be looking
forward to it.
Next
day...
