"It's 'Russia Day'"
I am writing
this from Samara airport as I begin a 22-hour journey home from Samara in Russia
where I just played for 107,000 people!
Actually the
show was yesterday which was a new holiday here called Russia Day. Nobody seems
to know exactly what it is or what it commemorates but it´s a day off so it
makes sense to have this festival on a Friday..
I was one of
only 2 non-Russian performers and I played with a band from St. Petersburg whose
name I can say but not write …. it sounds a bit like ¨Cheesh¨ when they say it.
It was a
really hot day, around 36 degrees centigrade and I can´t imagine how the
audience must have felt.
I was lucky ….
I played four songs and went back to my air-conditioned room but it was an
interesting experience.
Apart from a
few technical problems (settings changed from sound check the night before!) it
all went well. The band did a good job but I don´t think I´ll be doing more
shows like this any time soon.
True …. work
is work and I always enjoy doing new and different things and the challenges
that go with it but 4 days to do 4 songs and a really lousy travel plan? It´s
probably not worth it.
My career has
begun to move in a totally new direction now and, with the new CD (coming out in
late September) and the help of my record company, I hope we will progress
further in a direction that will have an almost unlimited future.
I have grown
up a bit and my audience (or at least some of them) has grown up with me so the
time is right to reach out in a totally different way, probably to more
grown-ups!
God bless,
Ken
