Hola de Espana!
Things are really rocking now and we are more than half-way through
mixing "The Last Dance"! The song order is settled and
several interesting things are falling into place. Each song has
developed its own "personality" now and they are neatly
tied together by a couple of common "threads". I have
to say that Dani's engineering and incredible attention to detail
have a lot to do with the results plus the fact that he persuaded
me to open my mind to some different thinking right from the beginning!
And I am really happy he did too! The heaviest song on the record
("Letting Go") has a nice acoustic guitar arpeggio in
the verses.... something I would have thought impossible but it
works! We have used different voices on the backing vocals too and
that helps to create a lot of different colours. For the most part
it's how we did it in Heep but, since then, I have mostly just tracked
my own voice. I am liking this change a lot! There are many sounds
that you may find hard to identify and which are not at all dominant
but which really add a lot to the tracks.
We will finalise the cover early next week and soon after that the
"limited edition" copies will be ready. We can only offer
500 because of my contract so be sure and grab one!!
The CD will be released in Russia on September 18th
(with a different cover) but it won't be released anywhere else
until the end of October so I will soon be caught up in the planning
for touring and promotion but I am really looking forward to all
of this! Now I am going to take the weekend off to celebrate my
birthday with a few friends and then we'll be back here on Monday
to finish up!! I'll keep you all posted from now throught the mastering.
I am anxious to share this with you so stay tuned!
God bless,
Ken Hensley
