April 17th 2004

No big plans today… just relax and enjoy the day. The weather was nice, a bit cloudy and the wind was chilly but we found a place in the sun to have coffee and relax, watching ordinary Gothenburgians go about their Sunday. Much like anywhere else really, people walking their dogs and enjoying the Spring, seagulls swirling in their noisy search for… whatever it is that seagulls search for!

Monica and I enjoyed strolling around the city, passing those who were willing to freeze as the price for seeing and being seen and eventually we found a nice café in the sun where all we had to tolerate was dreadful 70's Spanish pop music! Don't know where they found it but it reminded me of how popular "Latin-flavoured" music is all over the world. I am not sure why, although I suppose its infectious and generally up-beat rhythms do make you move!! Being a recent convert to hard Flamenco I find this stuff interesting.

Back to the hotel for a quick siesta and it was time to get together with the band to fix some musical things and rehearse a "new" song for tomorrow's show.

Then we went to get fish and chips (I am not kidding), walked into the Rosa & Crown (I am still not kidding!) and there were "The Hamburgers"!!! Unbelieveable… all the way from Hamburg, Oliver, Carsten and Kay. What a great surprise… and the fish and chips was okay too! We had a few beers, watched a little Spanish football on Swedish TV and the headed back to our hotels to prepare for tomorrow. The Hamburgers have been challenged to guess the set list so I won't include that here until after tomorrow's show!!

Thinking that the excitement was over we settled back in our room when the phone rang and our driver from Oslo asked us where we were! Explaining that he was in Gothenburg to pick us up, we informed him that he was 24 hours early so he drove home and promised to come back tomorrow… I hope he does!!

Next day...
