April 23rd 2004

It's not far from Hamar to Skien but, again, we drove through the mountains and back through Oslo to get there so it took a while. In between checking out the awesome views along the way we were all taking naps trying to catch up on sleep and stopping occasionally to stretch our legs and feed Igor whose appetite is apparently insatiable!!

Arriving in Skien, we went straight to the venue. I was looking forward to this one because I had done it a couple of years ago with Free Spirit and I was looking forward to working with Morten Olsen again!! Morten and Jill have become good friends over the years and it was great to see them both… we even got to meet Morten's mum who is much better looking than he is!!

Apart from a small glitch in the front-of-house mixer (which Richard soon fixed) sound check went smoothly. We spent some time fixing some small things in the show and then we went to grab a quick bite before going to the hotel. There was a brass band festival in town at the same time so not only was there a lot of music going on but hotel rooms were hard to find, so some of our guests were struggling with that!

It was good to have a little time to relax and prepare for the show and spirits were good. Morten and Eddie from Universal took the trip down from Oslo as did my good friend Finn from Radio 1. The guys from GEC were there too, the venue was packed and we were ready!!

Petter decided to announce us tonight, he wound the crowd up a bit and it was a really great show, the best audience singing so far!!

The band is getting tighter and tighter and more confident every night so we are having more fun as we go along and that's important. With a gruelling schedule like this, it's really tough if you're not enjoying it but we are and the tour in general is going well and, it seems, surprising a few people!!
We had an early start the next morning so celebrations were confined to a quick drink in the dressing room and invitations had to be politely declined. I may not be the most disciplined person but my real priority is to be fit for each show and to rest my voice as much as possible… I'm thinking… SLEEP!!
All in all a great night… one to be truly thankful for!!

Next day...
