November 15th 2005

Today was a good day and we made a lot of progress. There’s still a lot of work to do but we are definiely getting there.  The main challenge (for Willy in particular) is that, though the songs are essentially simple, there are a lot of dynamic changes that are important to the live performance and that means a lot to remember!! Someone once said that “repetition is a form of learning” but it’s also a good way to burn out your voice so I have to keep a good balance.

The final set list for these shows is as follows:

INTRO
OUT OF MY CONTROL
JULY MORNING
I DON’T WANNA WAIT
GIMME A REASON
CRYING
THE RETURN
THE WIZARD
I CLOSE MY EYES
THE LAST DANCE
STEALIN’
EASY LIVING
LADY IN BLACK

Encore:
RAIN
TELL ME
GYPSY

For the next tour I will include more songs from “Cold Autumn Sunday” which will be formally released on January 23rd.

Jimmy came up with more healthy food today, the soup was beef and vegetable with a great salad… I miss my siestas!!

After going through the show (warts and all) a couple of times we decided to call it a day and sleep on it.

I have some business to take care of in the morning so the band will get to rehearsal before me and focus on intros and endings before we start running the show from top to bottom.

Finally we retired to Jimmy’s pub for a beer and then to the hotel for some dinner.

I am pleased with the way this is going. Working with these guys was always going to be a little “experimental” but it’s working out well. They are all good players individually and some of them have worked together before so the challenge of “gelling” them as a unit has not been quite as difficult as I thought but we’ll keep working on the details of the show and will probably still be working on them when we hit the road tomorrow!!

Next day...
