This was a
busy day. After my usual morning routine of e-mail and other stuff I met Morten
and we went to the music store to check out the piano that I was going to use
tonight. The new Yamaha 250 is a fine instrument and they have certainly made it
easier to use. The touch remains a bit heavy for me, very similar to a real
piano (which I suppose it should be). This is the reason I prefer the Ketron G10
which has a touch somewhere between a light piano and a Hammond or most
synthesizers. Not being a piano player, the biggest challenge for me is to get
comfortable with this action so I spent a lot of time simply “playing” it. I do
want to thank the people at Helland Music Centre for allowing me to use it and
for their hospitality while I raided their shop!!
The local TV sent a cameraman to capture this
moment, totally without warning, but I didn’t care too much as I was busy
writing a new piece of music!
Magne and Petter arrived early afternoon and
I got to see some of the rough stuff from the film that was shot in Sarpsborg on
Monday. They used 6 cameras and we could view 4 of them in Magne’s computer, a
Powerbook using Avid software. Even though we are looking at and listening to
the very rough cuts, the look and sound of the film is great and I think we are
going to end up with a fantastic DVD.
Magne and I are going to prepare some
“teasers” for Rod to put on the web site so you can get a feel for it…
Sound check took a surprisingly long time
because of one little switch in the PA system that Magne eventually tracked down
so we finished up and left for dinner.
I must say that everyone here has been really
nice and very helpful but I would later regret eating so late and so close to a
show!!
The show itself went well and the crowd asked
some really good questions. By getting involved they actually helped to make the
evening more interactive and therefore much more interesting for everyone,
including me!!
I am ready to go home now. It’s fine when I
am working but not when I have down time!
Two more
shows to go and I am honestly looking forward to them but I am also looking
forward to going home to Monica and the menagerie!!
