DAY 17

Now it is tomorrow and there is more to tell!! We made it to the ferry and loaded ourselves, the trailer (which had been parked in Turku) and the "tobogan" onto "The Isabella", a huge Viking Lines Ferry boat.

In the waiting room I was approached by a girl's football team from Russia (wait a minute!!) who had recognised me from an article in a Russian magazine. So we took some pictures with them and I signed the article and stored away yet another interesting experience for the memory banks!!

The cabins are quite small on these boats but it was only for sleeping anyway so we met at the bar on the 9th floor! I don't know if you have ever been on one of these things but it is just like a floating city with shops, bars and restaurants everywhere. This one even had a casino… but you need money for that! It was so big and so comfortable that we soon forgot that we were even on a boat!!

Sitting down for a drink, we were all very tired from the previous week but finally able to relax a bit… but soon we knew we were in trouble! The boat had chosen the currently popular Latin theme and the cabaret entertainment was a band from Spain called "Los Monte Blancos" who were………… not very good!!!!! They all looked pretty bored and at one point one of the girl singers decided to scratch herself (I won't go into details) in the middle of a song wich caused me to fall off my seat and general amusement all round! I don't mean to be unkind… it's just that none of us could understand how this band got the gig in the first place! Enough said…

We couldn't take any more so we found a quiet place to have dinner. We were all very tired so it was great to have time to relax before crawling off to our cabins!

The alarm clock was most unwelcome again but it was 5am and time to get the day started! A quick shower and off to find some tea and meet everyone for the on-going journey to Skien. I am writing this from the back seat of the people carrier at the moment and we're about 400kms (6 hours) from Skien now. So I'll finish this day when we get there!!

(.............................)

We made it! 12 hours and not a single complaint from anyone. Of course we made a few stops and tried desperately to understand the difference between Euros and the various Krone that are used in Scandinavia but we were very glad to see the hotel. Tomorrow we have a chance to rest though I have some TV and press interviews to do in the afternoon… the joys of the road. Went to bed thankfully and with no alarm clock!!!

Next day...
