JOUR SIX

The "Musik Palette" is the venue tonight and it's right in the centre of Essen so when we woke up… there we were!

Start the day with a couple of cups of tea and then find the hotel room we are using to shower. The weather is very English today so we must have left the sunshine in Hamburg!!!

I have an interview to do but we still found time for a quick lunch and to take a moment away from the bus to relax!

Sound check was interesting today… my monitor fell down on top of the Mini-Moog and one of my guitars… right in the middle of a song! Fortunately no damage was done and we just carried on playing. Nice venue this and the promoter/owner is expecting a good crowd! We shall see!!!

Oh… and today we had an even more interesting story from Frank Sievers, the owner of the club (and a great guy by the way!). It seems his tour posters went to another venue (aaaagggghhh!) but he went ahead and made his own anyway! Frank is one of those people who are the life of the "real" music business in my opinion and he and his crew were wonderful to us thoughout the day!

Well we did have a great crowd and this was a great gig all round! We felt good on stage and the sound was excellent. The new versions of the old songs always get a good reaction and it is always good to know that this particular "risk" is paying off! Of course there will always be some people who are very "traditional" in their views but the overwhelming majority reaction has been really positive. I even had a DJ approach me about doing a "re-mix" of the new live version of Lady in Black and, after talking to Sony, I am sure now that this will be released and maybe before too long!

And a nice surprise too… my good friend Jurgen Scholz was there and we spent some time chatting and taking pictures after the meet & greet. Tonight I am going to try and send Rod some pictures but I am not so good with these things so don't hold your breath! After the autograph session, Frank invited us to his bar (upstairs from the gig) and we celebrated for a while until it was time for the bus to roll. We are on our way to Vienna which will take us two days but it's one of my favourite cities in the whole world so I am looking forward to it. Talk to you later and in the meantime… take good care of yourselves… FREE SPIRIT needs you!

Next day...
