The Eye of the World

Young men in the Borderlands sometimes sought to prove themselves by seeking the Eye of the World.

Few knew what the Eye of the World actually was, save that it was an object of the Power and could only be found by those whose need was great enough.  The Eye was guarded by the Green Man, and no one

could find the Eye more than once.

The Eye was actually a pool of the pure essence of saidin, the male half of the One Power.  It was made soon after the Breaking of the World, to be used in a time of great need.  This pool of saidin was not tainted, however, its purity ensured by the deaths of the one hundred male and female Aes Sedai who created it.

Unknown to all, the Eye also hid several artifacts of extreme importance.  With the pool of saidin gone, it was possible to retrieve them from the Eye.

First, the Eye contained one of the seven seals to the Dark One’s prison.  The seals were made of cuendillar , a material impossible to break.  However, this seal was found in pieces.

The Eye also hid an item of legend, the Horn of Valere .  It was hidden, to keep it safe until it would be needed in the Last Battle against the Shadow.

Last, the Eye contained a banner, the banner of the Lord of the Morning.  A scarlet and golden serpent on a field of white, it was the very same banner the Dragon rose when he led the forces of the Light against the Shadow.

The Eye of the World has met the need it was created for, and so has faded from the world.  Young men from the Borderlands will apparently need to find a new way to prove their courage.
