Fancloth

Fancloth is the rare material used to make the famous color-shifting cloaks of the Warders.  These cloaks are distinctive in their ability to blend into the Warder’s surroundings, creating an almost perfect camouflage.  The cloaks are so well known, in fact, that the Warders do not wear them in lands where Aes Sedai and their Warders are unwelcome.  They might attract unwanted attention - where there is a Warder, his Aes Sedai is usually not far away.

Once fancloth was a somewhat common fabric, used for fashion purposes during the Age of Legends.  When the War of Power began, though, fancloth was one of the many domestic goods which became invaluable in war efforts.  Its ability to make wearers nearly invisible was a great tool in war and was quickly recognized by military commanders on both sides of the battlefield.

The creation of fancloth is a closely guarded secret of the White Tower, but it is rumored that fancloth is created by means of a specialized ter’angreal .  If this is true, it is unlikely that fancloth will return to its fashion origins any time in the near future.
