Traveling

     One of the most exciting Talents to be rediscovered is Traveling.  Traveling allows an Aes Sedai to cross long distances without crossing the intervening space.  During the Age of Legends a great number of Aes Sedai possessed the strength and skill in the One Power to open up a gateway to Travel.  Even though the process of Traveling has been rediscovered, few current Aes Sedai are strong enough to open a gateway unaided.

     The methods used by men and women to Travel serve as an excellent example of how men and women utilize the Power in different manners.  Men use saidin to drill a whole through the Pattern from the place they are to the place they wish to be.  Women, on the other hand, must create a similarity in the Pattern between the two places.  Attempting to Travel in the manner of the opposite sex often has disastrous effects.

     For those who are less adept, or have less strength in the Power, the related process of Skimming may be used.  Like Traveling, a channeler who is Skimming opens up a gateway.  This gateway allows the channeler to enter the void outside the Pattern, where steps or platforms may be used to travel to the desired destination.  Skimming is slower than Traveling but will get the job done.

     The rediscovery of Traveling means that Aes Sedai can once again travel quickly across long distances.  This opens up tremendous possibilities for those serving the Light, as well as those serving the Shadow.
