| 14th Century Funeral Effigy (Sir John Brydges, early C14, Gloucester Cathedral) I thought the armour on this piece looked far too elaborate for the date given, so I sketched a few of the particulars and set about investigating. It turns out that the dating was correct; C14 English armour corresponds on all points with that worn by the figure. I didn't learn that until many, many sketches and museum visits later, though, as witnessed by the other drawings in this series. |
