The Wallace Collection (I)
The Wallace Collection (I) The Wallace Collection (I)
The Wallace collection is the most impressive, and most overlooked, collection of European weaponry which I have found to date. Here are a few of the items:
a) Effigy of a Warrior, probably English. C12.
b) Leg of a Monumental Brass, ca. 1320-30. Flemish or German.
c) Bascinet - 12 staples holed for passage of camail; above face opening, 2 staples for attaching movable nasal. Italian, ca 1350-1400.
d) Three Swords: (L to R) French, 1340; Frensch, 1375-1400; Thrusting Sword, C14.
