For those of you who don't have the faintest clue to what a script is...

A script is a type of mini-program that you can use to get certain tedious and repetitive tasks done while you are using the Wizard front end program to play the game.  They can be most useful in travelling long distances, among other things.  There are two kinds of scripts that the wizard supports: Those that you can start with the push of a button or by using the drop down menu, denoted by the .wiz tag, and those that you enter in the command buffer (the box that you type in at the bottom of the screen) which are denoted with the .cmd tag.  The main difference between the two is that with a .cmd script you can enter multiple parameters at once, thereby reducing the time it takes to run a .wiz script over and over for every different parameter you need.  If you're still confused, perhaps it will become clearer when I describe the .cmd scripts individually.

Additionally, you can't really do much else when scripts are running.  The most you can do safely without messing up the script is talk, so advise whoever is with you that you will be "running" or somesuch to wherever the script will be taking you.

DISCLAIMER
Please be aware that Simutronics has a policy on scripts; you cannot run a script while you are Away From the Keyboard for any reason!  There is some discussion that only scripts that gain your hero experience are illegal to run AFK, but I would rather be safe than sorry.  To read it for yourself, click on POLICY to the left of the HX homepage.  Remember, if you are caught scripting AFK, and yes, they have ways of finding out, you stand the chance of being locked out of all Simutronics games and possibly banned for life.  So don't hold me responsible if you get snagged, I warned ya.

Directions on installing scripts:

You don't need to be online and in-game to install scripts.

Select the script you wish to install. Right click on the link and choose Save Target As.. on MS Internet Explorer browsers or Save Link As... on Netscape browsers.  Those of you on a Mac hopefully should know how to save links to your machine ('cause I sure don't!).
The only thing you'll need to do is to save it to the Scripts folder of the wizard. The default location should be:

C://Program Files/Simu/Wizard/Xena/Scripts

Due to constraints of the host's file manager, I had to upload the scripts as .txt files.  When you Save as..., make sure the File name ends in the appropriate .wiz or .cmd

Make a note of the name of .cmd scripts so you will be able to use them through the command buffer.

Running Scripts

To run .wiz scripts, simply choose the Scripts drop down menu and then Execute a Script... .  Choose the script you want to use and off you go!  If you are using a travelling script, make sure you're in the proper room to start or you may end up hopelessly lost!

You can also run .wiz scripts with the touch of a button! First, you need to find out which symbol on your keyboard has been dedicated to running scripts.  Click Configuration at the top of the wizard, then Options.  Towards the bottom theres a parameter that says "Prefix CMD scripts with:".  The default setting is a period "."  If you would rather have another symbol instead of a period, change it.  Decide how you would like to enable the script either with a <ctrl> or <alt> plus a letter.  Use something you'll remember ( I use  <ctrl><b> for a bundling script ).  Go to Configuration, then Macro Keys... .  Pick the folder and letter you want and type: {=nameofscript} where "nameofscript" is the name of the .wiz script you wish to start.

With these .cmd scripts you MUST replace the text that is in BOLD inside the script itself, or the script will not work.  To access the script to edit it, click Scripts at the top of the wizard, then Edit A Script.  Choose the script to edit.  Highlight the words in bold and replace them with the proper terms.  For instance, if you use a machete, highlight the word WEAPON and type machete.

These scripts assume you are using one weapon and a shield.
If you use two weapons at once, highlight the entire phrase for shield users ( either "wear my shield" or "remove my shield" ) and replace it with the appropriate phrase for your weapon, such as "put my machete in my knapsack".  Leave the rest of the line intact. Two-handed weapon users can simply take out the entire line or lines referring to shield use.

To run .cmd scripts you always need to display the script name in the command buffer and enter it.  You can also run a .cmd script from a macro, but it will require an <enter> afterwards, unlike a .wiz script.  To run a .cmd script, simply type in the symbol dedicated to running scripts ( usually a period ) then the name of the script. Follow the script's name with the parameters you wish the script to go through, hit <enter>, and you're off.

If for any reason you need to stop a script while its running, simply hit the ESC key.

Utility Scripts (.Cmd)
** note: .cmd scripts require the user to change certain portions of the script to fit his or her personal needs.  The portions of script that may require changes are typed in BOLDin the script itself.  The script will not work if these portions are not correct.

Bundling script
(bun.Cmd)
usage: .bun <parameter 1> <parameter 2> ect
example: .bun leather helm greatsword
**note: You must spell out each parameter completely!**
This script will cause the user to stow the weapon and/or shield in his hands, then search for a bundle lying on the ground.  If found, it picks up the bundle and attempts to bundle similar items.  If no bundle is found, it creates a bundle of the items.  It even separates closely similar unbundlable items by opening a container and putting the odd item in it.  It then drops the finished bundles on the ground, leaving the hands free.  It saves a great deal of time and typing, especially with critters that drop a lot of junk (legionarys come to mind). This script does not work well with a parameter that ends in a "S" unfortunately, although if no bundle exsists for that item it will create that bundle just fine.  And if you can manage to keep the "S" bundle on top of the junk pile, it will work also.

Script to invoke magic
(magic.Cmd)
usage: .magic <item that contains magic>
example: .magic figurine
This script will make one hand free, then remove a relic from a container.  It will then invoke the item, wait for a favorable response, cast the magic on the user, stow the relic and rearm the user.  It's a nice little script to use during combat.

Combat Script
(combat.Cmd)
usage: .combat <critter>
example: .combat zombie

This script does not require editing.
This is a script that will cause you to leap into combat with the last critter to enter the room. . .that is, the newest critter.  Once engaged, the script will alternate between SWING and REVERSE STROKE, gaining the combo bonus for the reverse stroke,  at the same critter until it dies or the script timer runs out.  If the script finds the critter dead, it will search it but not skin or dissect.  It will then attack the next critter in line, newest to oldest, front to back.   I am working on a script that will swing at the oldest one, but it seems doomed.  If you can't leap or you become too fatigued to do so, no worries; it will automatically advance for you.  Remember to have your weapon and/or shield ready!

Beldin's Script for Spirit Trainer
( 1001.cmd )
usage : .1001 {symbol/figurine} [name of your deity]
example: .1001 figurine zeus

This script, submitted by Beldin, allows a priest to charge his/her relic
with the spell Spirit Trainer. Just make sure you have a relic in hand
and properly "prepared", and that you're in an appropriate place.
Many thanks to Beldin!  Visit the Silver Hall!
