Monthly Social Event
-the weekend of the third Saturday of each month
-
Each month, the Northern Lights also tries to "Get out a bit". So we plan "Social Events,"
Miniature Golf, Go-cart racing, Bowling, Camping, and going out to movie premiers have been standard events. Social Events usually occur in the evenings, usually on the third Saturday, starting at around 7:00pm. We are aware that finances are limited for some of our members, so we try and keep the price of participation at or below $15 per person. (Dining not included). After the event, the group will usually adjourn to a local restaurant. Social Events can run into the "Late" and have once or twice run into the "Early"... thus explaining why SUNDAY events are rarer.
-
Social Events are decided 2 months in advance by the Senior Staff.

Ever since William Shatner did his "Get a life" skit on Saturday Night Live, Star Trek®
fans have gotten a bad rap. Much of the world tends to look down it's nose at their perception of us as "Geeky, pimply-faced, pointy-eared kids waving toy phasers and screaming 'ZAP ZAP!' at each other". Alright, there's SOME reality to that, but for the most part, once we take off our ears we're normal, caring people, with a positive view towards the future. Starfleet® (our parent organization) has repeatedly encouraged it's chapters to put this positive energy to work in our communities. The Northern Lights has done just that. Collecting canned food and volunteering to helpout the local public television station (KTEH 54), as well as working with the San Jose Asian Law Alliance in 1993, The Northern Lights is always trying to help where it can.

Community Service projects occur every 3-6 months.
