On occasion, a local convention becomes quite important to the Northern Lights. So
important, that we spend many hours hauling hundreds of dollars in equipment, to set up our recruiting display there. Hundreds of man hours go into this, and often result in more socializing and entertainment than actual recruiting value. The club members often "chip in" on a hotel room, and a "Slumber Party" effect seems to occur. Club members volunteer to spend some of their valuable time to sit at the table, and often don't want to leave when their shift is up, because they've gotten into the movie being shown.

The Northern Lights attends 2-4 Conventions per year.

The Romulan Rite of Summer
-Con Party
-
Sometimes, that "Slumber Party" gains a monetary base, and becomes a party. But
when the Northern Lights throws a party, it becomes a not-to-miss affair. The First Romulan Rite of Summer occurred at Unicon '92, and has been going strong ever since. Almost every convention that the Northern Lights has "Officially Attended" has been blessed by a Rite. Moneys are collected from donations from crew members, and most of the money goes to funding the cost of the room. Thereafter, funds go to refreshments. Coke, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Orange Soda, and yes... on occasion, Beer. Whether we know you or not, whether you look it or not, EXPECT to be carded. The Northern Lights is VERY cautious about it's Alcohol Policy, so a "No-ID...No-Beer" rule is strongly enforced.

The Romulan Rite of Summer Usually occurs on the SATURDAY of an "attended" con.
